I use white noise, (a fan in the room set on a medium speed) and meditation. Good breathing excercises and a relaxed mental state always do the trick for me. It does take practice, but once you get good at it, it takes no time at all.

There are just to many ways to fall asleep without using drugs to list here ; but I will give you a couple that help me.
Walking approximately 1 hour before going to bed really helps in getting to the point of relaxing.
Reading a good book.
Watching a little TV while laying in bed.
If you are suffering from chronic insomnia you should see your doctor.
