Even though condoms help prevent some STDs. Is it wrong to ask someone you are dating to get tested for STDs before you sleep with them? What is the etiquette (if any) here?

You should get tested. There is no etiquette, because your life is too important to risk it. The way I look at it is if the person you ask has a problem with getting tested, then chances are you shouldn't be sleeping with him anyway.

That depends... its sort of a trust issue. I think asking before having sex is not bad etiquette but insisting they go get tested may be a bit much. All relationship and all guys are different so I cant tell you how he'll react to you asking him to take a test before putting out but if you to get serious just let him know you are only trying to be safe about things. If he refuses... he probably has something to hide!

Yes, you can go to the free clinic for testing. They are located all over the US.

Below is the link for Los Angeles County.

No it is not wrong and highly recommended. Simply ask to see the results of recent STD exam. Of course you need to have a recent exam yourself. The old I will show you mine if you show me yours.

I would not be so worried about STD as that would be about AIDS, because a condom does not stop the spread of AIDS

Yes, this is just common sense. You can't trust anyone anymore unfortunately.
