Well, let me first say that I am probably going to regret answering this question, but here goes. Just my thoughts anyway....I assume that you may be in your late teens/early twenties. The reason I say that is because I think that anyone who has had to fight for their country in any of the wars would already know the answer to this question. Yes, every human being deserves respect. But not everyone believes that. Take the leader of Iran for instance. Earlier this year he stated several times that Israel and the US should be 'wiped off the face of the world'. Respect him? He has a right to his opinions, just like everyone else, but when you make dangerous opinionated statements, you can't be respected. The US is proudly my home, and many, many people have died for our many freedoms and rights. These people believed our country was worth dying for. I want to support them and thank them for that. If they didn't believe that our country was worth it, then what would the US be like without them? A country where you couldn't practice your religion, no freedom of speech, no freedom of assembly, no right for representation, no right to bear arms, etc. I think we take our rights for granted because we have always had them during our life times, but it was not always so. It took a lot of courage and sadly, lives, for us to be able to live the way we do today. Until you have one or more of these freedoms taken away or threatened, you may not understand how blessed we are. Maybe someday everyone will understand that. I'm sorry if I have offended anyone, but that is just my opinion.

With all respect you should ask the government of Mexico and the elite of Mexico this question,,, because their citizens are dying every days in our border and they don't give a damn about it. Do they consider their death in the border an Honor or what???
I'm a Vietnam vet and I was ready to give my life for my country, the United States of America.. Luckily I came back to my family and country. I thank GOD for that.

In order to respect human beings, you have to respect their shelter and protect it, and that is the country. Without the country and not to die for will leave you to live less than you expected. No respect.

I'm a soldier and I've been deployed to the warzone a few times. You ask why - Well I'd give my life in a heartbeat because with out us service members there would be no protection for our country. Our country could be taken over just like that because there was no protection. Our country is only as strong as it is because of our strong military. I see what your saying but if I didn't do what I do then no one would protect my family or my friends so they can live in peace. I ask you this what would you do if everyone in your country thought as you, no one joined the military and some other country came in, destroyed your way of life, killed your family or friends. Makes you think - So be greatful there is people like myself willing to die for my country because with out us you couldn't live in peace.

well that would be nice if everyone thought that way. However what would you do turn your country over to people who are looking for power and love killing others for fun? there are 6 billion people in the world. Not everyone wants to live in peace.

If you are proud and respect where you live than it should be worth protecting. Something must be pretty good with the U.S. of A; why else are so many trying to come here? Sacrificing everything, risking their lives?? I feel very fortunate and blessed to live in the United States and get very irritated when people are always b******* about it.

Just remember that freedom isn't free. You sleep comfortably with a full stomach and in a warm bed because millions of American soldiers and other service ppl have kept America safe for you.

Are you from the united states? We consider our country, our people. It is not about dying for land or the organization of a country. It is about dying for the people that you love.

Only you can decide what is worth your life, same as anyone else. If someone feels like putting themselves in harm's way to protect a chunk of land, or an ideology, I'm not going to stand in their way as long as they're not infringing on other peoples' rights.

I love my country. The freedom, the human dignety, the people, they're all worth fighting for, and worth dying for.
Borders can change, names can change, but the spirit of this country can never die. 1000 years from now people will look back at us, at the principles people were willing to die for, and remember that they can never be given up.
