it's not a waste of time if you are the one sitting in that chair and you know it might be the difference between living longer or not living at all.

I actually have met people who consider the chemo to have been a travesty and that if they had to do it over, they would skip the chemo. I am truly not sure what I would do, although I like to think that I would go the route of alternative/complementary healing. I am doing what I can to prevent the suffering.... nutrition, etc. I believe that cancer is, actually, Big Business for the pharmaceutical companies and others. Take charge of your own health now!
Happy New Year!

For me, I want only herbal medicine, chinese herbs & Indian Ayurveda medicine.
No radiation. No chemo. these only prolong the agony. And those cancers can re-appear AT ANY TIME !!!!!!! Long after chemo is concluded. There is no final victory.
Chemo and radiation kill the normal cells horribly while they kill the cancer cells. So if herbs cannot cure me, and my prayers to Jesus are refused, then I make my Orthodox prayers and adore Christ and revere His Holy Mother - beg Christ to forgive me and take me quickly into His world. this is my treatment plan.
chemo - just like bypass & stents are a big $$$$$$$$$$$$ business to enrich the MD's and pharmaceutical cos. & hospitals.

i don't know what rock you crawled out from under,so let me clue you in.my wife was diagnosed with stage 3-a metastatic ovarian cancer 5 years ago,i can assure you that without chemo she would not have lived to see the end of that year.as for the worth you can ask my two boys who where only 1 and 2 at the time now 6 and 8 if they think that chemo has been worth having there mother around.it's hard to watch someone you love or care about go threw it but yes it is worth it.

that is a BIG generalization, no offense. MANY lives are saved each year from chemo. it's not suffering to some - some people become VERY strong in the mind when they have a disease and they can withstand suffering because they know they have a chance of getting better. it saved my aunt. it might even save YOU some day. it is NOT the only weapon. some tumors can be removed surgically, such as from the breasts or sometimes the brain. so be more careful when you make those statements.
i KNOW i won't get Best Answer, but at least i enlightened you.

I am going to say from my experience that it is a waste of time, My mother took chemo and was so sick and not herself and she died within a months time. I feel if i was diagnosed with cancer i would tell my family that my wishes are not to have chemo.

No, there are several types of cancer that has been sent into remission by chemotherapy. I have a friend that has had cancer for about 11 years. she has bone cancer and it had eat into 1 hip and the doctors replaced the hip and she told me the other day that she is feeling much better now. She works with displaced children and though she is retired she works as a schoolboard member and several other projects for children. Its true that there are still several who die of cancer but new techniques are found every day that can be used to prolong death for several years.

I know a few people who have lived for over 5 years after chemo. If you catch cancer early, you can kick it in the butt and live.

A friend of mine had cancer and chemo and he has been cancer free for 6 years now. I also have another friend who's daughter had cancer when she was pre-school age. She had chemo and graduated from high school last year....cancer free.

Im sure that the person and his/her family will appreciate the extra time that chemo gives.
Also, sometimes cancer goes into remission. Chemo can help with that.

that is absolutely incorrect. my panino had chemo for his prostate cancer more than 3 years ago - is 3 years a waste of time? even if it is only a few more months you get to spend with your loved ones how is it not worth that time? my grandfather also had chemo and was in the 3% of longest survivors of asbestosis, was that a waste of time? it also made him feel better. not everyone feels bad when going through chemo. granted there was about a week where they tried a new type of chemo on him and it swelled his brain and he wasn't aware of what was what, but a week during six months? how is that not worth it? as a result, even though he was not able to attend my wedding (it was during that week) he was able to see the pictures of it and be happy for me. my panino was able to attend thanks to chemo. how is that not worth it?
