Here is my dilema: Before i had my first son I was petite ( 5'2") and wieghed 136 which was somewhat muscle. I was a size 8 and very happy about that. When I was pregnant with my first son I gained 60 lb (mostly from being on bed rest). I never lost that weight (not from lack of trying (excersise, eating right, pills, you name it) ) and when I was pregnant with my second son I lost 20lb and only gained 10 back. The problem is that I have literally gained 20 lb since I had him in June. I have tried to lose all of this weight, but NOTHING seems to be working. I just keep going up on the scale, ( I weighed in at 202 on Fri at my doc) not down. Has anybody else had this problem or does anybody know whats going on with me???

There could be several factors involved here.

First and foremost, are you on birth control (specifically the pill)? Those can make you gain weight.

So can your prenatal vitamins. If you're still nursing and taking those vitamins, they can have an "all you can eat, all the time" effect. They make some women sick... others are ravenous.

You might also want to have your thyroid checked. Kids change your metabolism. I have one friend who lost 20 pounds while pregnant and was smaller after delivery than before conception. However, once she started nursing the pounds packed back on and then some. It just depends on the pregnancy and your body as to how you'll react. Hence the reason you lost weight with baby #2. Each time is different.

Weight gain may also not be a result of more body fat. Pills are a horrible alternative, because they mostly just bleed the water out of your system and don't really take care of the real issue: the unwanted fat. The best thing is always exercise, and when you first start exercising you'll build up muscle in place of fat, and muscle weighs more. Start exercising, and don't go by the scale... go by the feel of your clothes. Just because the numbers don't change doesn't mean you're not trimming down in the first months of dieting. After that, you should see your weight go down, although you may never get back to your pre-pregnancies body no matter how hard you try. Just remember that diet and exercise BOTH will get you much farther than anything else will. And talk to your doctor about it. He/she may be getting concerned about the increased weight and its effects on your system, so if you speak up it might be a really good thing for everyone.

i have no idea since i've never had kids. but, maybe you have developed a thyroid problem. or maybe your metabolism has just slowed down with age. God knows mine has! Do you count calories...every little bite that enters your mouth? They can really add up. Good luck to ya. Trying to lose weight sucks, no matter what the cause!

First of all you seem to think that you were petite just because you were short. Petite has very little to do with just height alone. Being petite would not be weighing in at 132 pounds no matter what that 132 pounds was comprised of. Petite is very small of body structure as well as stature. If you were 5'2" and weighed 102 pounds you would be petite, but not at 132..basically you were average, even a little overweight for your height muscle or not.

This is my 3rd baby and I'm not happy with my weight. I lost tons of weight with the 2nd baby and I was smaller than when I got prego with my first baby. I was happy. Now that I have had my 3rd baby I'm not happy. I would love to lose weight and I know exacially how you feel.
