Yes, I have heard of American military deserters or draft dodgers coming to Canada and trying to claim asylum.

A few people have avoided arrest by fleeing to Cuba or the Middle East. I guess that's a form of amnesty, though it primaily done to evade being punished for a crime.
A few wealthy people have renounced their citizenship and moved abroad to avoid paying taxes, but I don't think that's really asylum.
And some draft protestors fled to Canada to avoid military service.
In general though, nothing like the numbers who seek asylum on our shores - some for valid reasons, others inventing stories to bypass the waiting list of people who want to come here.

Yeah, I read that 5 Americans had applied to the UK for asylum because they heard they would be put on 'National Health' while they were waiting.
Crooks, of course, in my opinion.

If you lived in any other country you would not hear about the many who apply to the USA for asylum. We have a press that is as watched and regulated as any. Sometimes worse than many other countries. Please don't take what you hear in the news as the total truth. It isn't.

I'm sure there were a few, but Lee Harvey Oswald is the only name that comes to mind.
