Shopping for panties and bras and wanted some panties from the 5 for 25 table. I got to the register and my total was way higher than it was supposed to be......I asked why?.....she tried explaining and told me to tell the woman at the front to help me(she was white)

I simply walked up to her smiled and said which one on the table here are 5 for 25. She said all of them and I told her what happened.

She went and told the people at the register that I was totally upset and that I was really mad at them which was completely untrue. She made it seem as if I were the angry black woman who was about to beat everybody up in the store

Do you think it had anything to do with race or am I looking too deeply into it?

Let me tell you, as a white person (lol), some white people in general try to cater to black people because they are Afraid of what the black person might say or do, when a situation like this comes up (thanks to hollywood.)

So no you are NOT looking to deeply into it! Ignorance isnt bliss.

Dont call anybody up (the regional manager or corporate office) IT WOULD MAKE YOU SEEM LIKE A ANGRY BLACK WOMAN (lol) Simply next time correct the manager within her statements, and explained why you just wondering why the price was high (that would be the best way to end this type of steriotyping)

It's difficult to say if this incident is race-related, but I certainly understand your feeling slighted by this episode. It was wrong for the second woman to say you were upset when it sounds like you were being very polite. The next step, if you want to go there, is to find out the name of the store manager and report the incident as you just told it to us. That's what I would do, make sure it goes on the record with the store manager, or whoever is in charge there, that woman #1 is incompetent (can't add up items on a cash register) and woman #2 described you as angry when in fact you were professional, calm, and polite.

You don't have to use the word "incompetent," but just retell the incident to the manager, say you always liked shopping there in the past but now are having your doubts about whether they really value you as a customer.

Good luck! Keep us posted. Happy New Year.

There are many reasons why she could have portrayed you inaccurately... it could be that she was applying a stereotype, but it could also be the tenth time that day the cashier made a mistake and she wanted her to realize she's annoying customers. Working in customer service is tough, and maybe she's just used to getting angry complaints.

In any case, everyone saw your behavior, regardless of what the woman said.

Don't be too quick to take things personally, especially when dealing with someone you don't know, or you will constantly be on the defense. Just remain as you are, because you sound pretty level-headed.

You have to understand that people unknowingly have prejudices. I'm pretty sure everyone believed it because, well, you're Black right? I definitelt thing that a lot of things are race-related. They're already afraid of upsetitng you if you notice.

I think the female that took care of you was a raving air head, and was too lazy to do her job. And take the time to listen to what you were trying to say. Probably just a rude ignorant dumb air head girl. God bless****

Maybe it had something to do with race, but I hope not. That's why I shop online like ebay. No temperamental people do deal with, you know?

i think you're reading too much into it....i don't think it had to do with race, i'm betting it had to do with clerks who are agitated from all the extra holiday hours and work...
happy new year!
