And how do you know it was an apple?

Three answers:
1. God had given man free will, which meant that not even God could predict what would happen. (Omniscient means knowing everything that's happening, but does that mean knowing everything that's happening NOW, or knowing the entire past and the future?)
2. God knew what would happen and had to act surprised to be convincingly angry enough to drive Adam and Eve from the garden and thus play out the story. (Good acting!)
3. The story is a fictional account and God is a literary character in the story, so it makes sense for God to be surprised. He even walks in the cool of the day (Gen 3:8). (When have you ever heard of God walking anywhere?)
P.S. Many biblical scholars think it was a fig, not a pomegranate.

The type of fruit is not mentioned in the scriptures. Since artist had to make it look like "something" they went with a look (the apple) which is common to almost everywhere on earth.
God was not surprised that Eve ate the apple. His question of "What have you done" was not for information, but rather for accusation and to make her face up to her actions. God wanted Eve to admit and take responsibility for her actions.

He wasn't a bit surprised about it, as a matter of fact He prearranged it with Jesus to came save us after the fall of sin.
And we don't claim it to be an apple, the Bible just refers to it as "the fruit of the tree", never calls it an apple.

He wasn't surprised. He simply asked why she had done such a thing.
I'm sure He probably knew why, but He wanted to hear her say it.
We don't "know" it was an apple, because the Bible doesn't identify it as such. It simply calls it "fruit."

You might want to re-read the story. God was not surprised and there is no mention as to which fruit it was.

He wasnt surprised. He acted like any parent would when they know that their children have done wrong. Its how you ferret out the lie. Even tho He already knew. Welcome to parenthood. Test the metal of your kids. i do it all the time.

because he is not. he had to come down to earth to learn what was happening. anyone who says he is omniscient doesn't read the bible
