Can Valium be used for long term use 2.5 mg twice daily for anxiety?

The answer is No.

Valium is a controlled substance. Your body will require higher dosages to reduce the anxiety that you suffer from. Many Physicians consider Valium a short term solution to acute anxiety.

Physicians prescribe Valium as an intervention medication to stabilize the anxiety. Once, the Anxiety is under control; other medications may be prescribed for you.

You should enter into therapy to examine the root cause of the Anxiety. Exercise, meditation and a correct diet will all play a role in reducing your anxiety. Also, coping mechanisms are recommended to control the anxiety.

Example: If you have a deadly Fear of Flying, the Physician may prescribe a drug such as Valium to reduce the anxiety. However, Flying is quite safe in most situations.

Hope this assists you.

Yes, for a long time but eventually you will become immune to it and need a higher dosage or another med. I take Xanax for anxiety. It helps me more than anything else I have tried. I've had anxiety disorder for many years. Good Luck.

5 mg of diazepam a day for anxiety will eventually become inefficacious. You will start needing larger doses - up to 40 mg per diem possibly. My advice is to ask your doctor for a non-addictive anxiolytic. Buspar perhaps.
