Depends on the hot sauce. For example in Red Tobasco Sauce, the main ingredient is Cayenne pepper, and in Green Tobasco Sauce, the main ingredient is Jalapeno pepper.

Chilies. I just had to say chilies because people keep saying "peppers" and chilies aren't actually peppers. Pepper is just pepper corns. We call some chilies peppers because Christopher Columbus is an idiot and was sent to find pepper, and he found chilies. The only thing he would compare the spiciness of the chilies to was pepper, so he took them back to spain and said they were peppers. And now we still call them that! Why does that man get his own holiday?

my grandma makes her own hot sauce and she puts habanero peppers, white vinegar and salt. she purees it all up seeds and everything.. its pretty good
