I am 18, male,
im not familiar with dating, ive never done it myself =(
never had a girlfriend and when people find that out they
either say, wait everything has its season, or WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!
(response mostly from males my age)
So just wondering is teen dating all its cracked up to be or is it better as just friends???
any input would be great.

I'm glad u asked the question... we were just having this discussion comparing dating, relationships, friends etc... we had all ages 17, 18, 21, 24, 30, & 49 both males and females. Long ago... it really mattered but now life is about the friendships. By having a lot of aquaintances when your seriously looking to develop a relationship. You've had enough friendships and aquaintances to have aquired the knowledge of the opposite sex. Of things to enhance or things to avoid in relationship.

A couple of guys gave u excellant advice... one said it was dumb playing marriage couples... which holds alot of truth. Another said concentrate on your college education! Which is so true. The kids who were so called dorks... are some of the riches and happiest human beings. They are now the beautiful people. The ones who were so cute, are now out of shape and seriously unattractive. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU! Find ur passion and the people who share in that same passion. U will find the person when you least expect provided u don't climb into a shell.

my son 17 could have just about any girl he wants... but choose to be just friends. He goes out in groups... he said he doesn't want to hassle the fights and mess. That he'd rather get serious end of college era. I told him love doesn't happen that way. He likes a number of girls, exchange gifts as birthdays, christmas but he learned last year that he had a blast at prom without a date.

My best friend daughter is turning 19 and is a virgin. She too isn't familiar with dating. But she is the person both guys and girls ask for advice. She's great with advice for others but is clueless when it comes to her own relationships. Very cute girl, funny and smart. She too hears What the heck is wrong with you!... now in college... the kids are more praising telling her it's cool to be virgin. She is seeing the results of causal sex. Emotionally many of the kids are not prepared for the next day. Her social life is full, she's made good friends and is involved in organizations that are important to her. So they go out in large groups. Some couples but mainly students who share an interest or passion.

Depending on your state and part of the country... it's not that big of a deal. High School is the tough experience. College should be easier

Dude it's a tough age. I didn't date until I was 20 and I had a lot of catching up to do. You have a lot of lessons to learn through dating, and whatever age it happens, you are going to mess up here and there and with luck learn and get better. I don't think many people dating in their teens last, but they do get a lot of that "youth" stuff out of the way and can move on to more committed and grownup relationships.

Being friends is to your advantage, you can learn a lot about what women want and like without screwing it up. So learn, listen, and ask questions. And stay single until you feel right.

Yes teen dating is important - You need to learn about relationships, you need to break a few hearts, have your heart broken. It is part of life, it's fun to experience these new things, getting further and further with women and eventually the one will fall into your lap. You won't fall in love unless you put yourself out there man - Get out there and have some fun, enjoy the experience. Don't be afraid of being dumped or rejected, it's part of life. You'll do the same to a female some day

I definetly don't think that dating at all is that great. If I had to choose between a boyfriend or friends, I would definetly choose friends. I just think that teen dating especially is just pointless. I mean it is definetly fun, and better than nothing, but it's not amazing or anything. More than likely you won't find your perfect someone in your teens anyways.

You're right not to have bothered. Dating as a teenager — or at any pre-retirement age, for that matter — is a mindless distraction at best. Not enough teens know how great it is to be single and focused.

It's stupid, people think they need to be in little pretend marriages starting at age 12, it's all just a joke. It's better to focus on your schooling and then when you have a great career and money, you will acutally have to start telling girls to get lost. If you want to be there, go to college and work your butt off!

Ahhh, teen insecurities, I can remember them all now.

First off, don't worry. Things will improve as you get older/mature and people around become more mature. Be friends for now, it'll become more romantic as you meet more people.
