I would never, EVER use a cracked copy of Windows XP, even if I could FIND AN IT PERSON WITH WINDOWS XP INSTALL DISKS (CORPORATE EDITION) AND CONVINCE THEM TO MAKE ME A COPY. It would be completely illegal and lead to instant retribution from the Microsoft Coporate License Enforcement group against the corporation. Please think CAREFULLY before asking anything like this.
PS As an IT person who supports all versions of Windows, OS X, and some Solaris Unix and Ubantu Linux, I can truthfully say that I live by the motto: "Friends don't let Friends install XP". It is a horrible nightmare.

If you are using cracked windows XP you must never register. The microsoft can fine out that you are using it and you might not able to download the updates. Install your cracked XP and set updates to automatic. Choose from the list which patch you will like to update. You can use as long as you want.

No i don't use a illegal copy of XP. I value my computer too much and i need it always working, since i am doing my dissertation and i have special software on my laptop.
