I just bought a brand new CUV with Navi. The system that I have does not require me to pay a monthly service, however, I will have to purchase software updates in the future because the roads and routes will change.

There is no monthly fee. However, most car makers charge for a CD with updated maps for your navigation system, but getting the updated maps is optional.

No monthly fee, however you might need to buy updated mapping software every so often because new roads will be built etc.

No, not with standard navigational systems. You do have to pay for services that are interactive such as On Star though.

There is probably a free period, probably the first year. Then after they get you hooked, you have to pay a monthly charge.

of course, thats one of the bad things about a built in setup like that, you might get some free time, but will be short lived.
