I am 72 pounds, 5"3, 14, and female. I have a very fast metabolism, and I am very skinny. I hate being skinny, because all my friends embarass me, even though they don't know it.
They pick me up, and say that I am as light as a baby, they always ask me how much I weigh, they always ask me to lift up my shirt, and when I do, they tell me I am so skinny, and they can see my bones and my rib cage, and they always ask me, are you anorexic, or are you bulimic? It is so annoying!
I don't want to gain any weight, but I don't want to lose any either, how can I tell my friends nicely that they are hurting my feelings, and embarassing me, and just because I am skinny doesn't mean I am anorexic?

Sweetie if you are 5'3" and 72 pounds and DON'T WANT TO GAIN any weight-- you ARE anorexic and you need help now. Bulimia would mean you eat a lot then puke. Anorexia you just stay thin.

I am anorexic and I am fighting it hard. It is hard to see my body at a weight that others say is slender and beautiful, and I think I look fat. I have to fight the idea not to eat. Once I made a rule: if I even thought of calories when deciding not to eat something, I had to eat it. That helped me not to be so obsessive.

Sweetie you are too thin. This is doing terrible things to your health. Even if you fight your anorexia later, all the time that you keep yourself too thin you are shortening your life. You MUST go to a doctor and truly work with him or her or the therapist she or he sends you to, no lying and no deceiving. But whatever you do, DON'T let them put you with any other anorexics. that makes everyone much sicker.

People die from anorexia all the time. I might have heard 50% of diagnosed anorexics die of the disease. Do you want to die so young? There is so much you haven't experienced. You have to have a very strong will to fight being sick.

One important thing to do is ask your doctor or find a weight chart that shows maximum and minimum weights for men and women. The smallest weight for your height IS your goal. It MUST be. Please tell your parents about it and show them this. Please get professional help!!

good luck

Natasha

ps I know, it's considered rude to tell someone they are fat, but they think it's ok to tell someone they are too skinny. I was also skinny before I was anorexic and I was trying so hard to gain weight and people always told me to be happy I wasn't fat. Also, you couldn't say something to somebody about the darkness of your skin, but total strangers think it is on to tell me I am too white. It's a societal thing; people are not going to understand.

Level with your friends and just tell them it hurts you when they do that. Almost everyone is nice when you tell them you are hurt. They will be sorry and they will stop because they like you.

Hi there,

I can identify with you being of the same proportions myself, but a little older.

All my life people have made 'skinny' jokes like 'Hope you have an anchor in that briefcase, you're gonna need it in this wind." Or, "What do you mean you don't need a phone book to see over the wheel?"

I've never understood why people think it's ok to make skinny jokes, while if you make a fat person joke your being insensitive.

I tell people "I'm not skinny; I'm just small boned." I also have the metabolism of a hummingbird. People make jokes cuz they are jealous as hell they can't eat that chocolate cake and WE can.

Hope this helps!

Happy New Year!

John

PS: I tell people I was born this size and can safe a fortune buy buying clothes in the boys department.

I, too was a skinny Minnie when I was your age except I was 5'8". I heard all the tall, skinny jokes. Yes, it was hurtful and yes, I hated it too. I finally worked up the courage to tell my friends that they were hurting my feelings. They had seen me eat (tons), so they knew I didn't have an eating disorder. They were just clueless and thought they were funny. As long as you play along by lifting your shirt or laughing with them they won't get it. Tell them when you are talking about something else. Say, "You know how you tease me about my weight? It really bothers me and makes me sad. Do you think you could stop?" This will help them wake up to your sensitivity. You will eventually begin gaining weight as your body matures. Keep in mind, as your friends start their periods yours will not start until you reach about 100 pounds. Be strong!

First off, dont be embarrassed because it sounds like your friends like you a lot and are just having fun with you. Enjoy the fact that you have friends and try not to take it the wrong way.
I doubt you are anorexic unless you hate to eat. You will gain some weight as you grow but dont worry about it thats normal.
People these days are easily offended and I honestly dont think your friends are trying to hurt you. Just join in the fun and be glad your problem isnt obesity which so many kids have a problem with. Their situation is way sadder. Celebrate your life and be glad things arent so bad.

I can feel your pain! I am tall, but have always been slender. I am 32 years old, and people have no problem making comments about my size. I get sarcastic comments and jokes thrown at me all the time. I can eat whatever I want and never gain a pound, so it's alot harder to meet their expectations than 'just eating more' All I can say is, the comments hurt less the older you get. You learn to let them roll off your back. You also learn how to defend yourself better. I simply say 'please don't call me skinny, I prefer the term slender'. Little hints like that might help. Hopefully if you can sincerely tell your friends that their comments are hurtful they will back off.

tell them that you are at least not overweight! tell them that you are very active and mostly show them that you eat. Like eat a lot in front of them. if it dosen't work you need to talk to them seriously and say that you are skinny and skinny is beautiful stand up for who you are beause being skinny is definetly nothing to be ashamed of. My third option is do the same to them but be like "omg you gained weight!" or "wow you say i'm too skinny but I can see that you should definetly lose some pounds!" things like that lol be creative but remember that's the last option cause you don't want to offend them even if they offended you.
good luck!

I was soo skinny during your age also. It was kinda gross. However, by the time I turned 17, I began to gain weight in all the right places. Just be patient.

If I were you, I'd go straight up! If you say it directly, they'll get the message that it is serious. Don' sugar-coat it or anything, as they might not take you as seriously.

Is it really that big of a deal, though? They don't mean to hurt your feelings, so don't take any offense from it! Just relax and enjoy it.

i am also very skinny at my age i weigh 81 and almost 14 and 5 feet tall. whenever ur friends say things like that again just say im not anorexic or just walk away when they say things mean to u. thats wat i do alot of the time and i end up pissing my friends off cause i won't talk to them. well if my friends will piss me off i will piss them off also. its not our fault we can't gain weight thats just the way our bodies work. cause my skinnyness makes me look younger than my normal age and i hate when people think im like 11 or 12. just ignore ur friends when they say stuff like that 2 u.

BELIEVE ME!! i knoe what your going through. im 13 and 5'2'' and 81 pounds. all my friends say that im anerexic and bulemic too. i hate it. i just tell them to go away and stop saying that cuz it makes me mad when ppl think that i have an eating disorder when i just have a high metabalism like you. my other friend is the same way too.

just tell your friends that you hate it when they pick you up and call you names. and they should knoe if you really have an eating disorder cuz i mean, if they were really your friends, they would see a difference in your behaviour if you were anerexic.
