I would say that you've chosen the best period to visit Italy.
Around those days generally weather is sunny but not too hot, daylight is the longest all over the year, spots are not so crowded like in July/August and also prices are lower as in those 2 months that are the real Italian high season.
Don't worry, you've tooken the best option....
Have a nice staying in Italy.

The high season is June and July. In August the country closes down for "ferragosto", the month when all Italians go on holiday. In my opinion it is best to visit in either May or September when the weather isn't ridiuclously hot, the queues aren't as long and everything is a little cheaper. Enjoy.

It will be high season, and fairly crowded. But, I was there for the week after Easter 2005 and the crowds were no real problem. The people are very friendly.
