Atoms can't die. Mass is neither created or destroyed, just converted or recycled. Maybe not in the atmosphere but their around here somewhere. There may be a carbon atom in your left arm that was once part of Abraham Lincoln's head.

Atoms don't break down, molecules do.
So, the atoms in the food that the cow ate got dropped on the ground in it's droppings. The manure that crops grow in use those atoms.
Those cities that line a long river like the Mississippi: by the time a water molecule makes its way to the delta it's been through probably 10 colons.

Law of conservation of matter states that matter is neither created or destroyed during chemical and physical change. Since the basic building blocks of matter are atoms (well there is extremely strong evidence for smaller particles), then that means that the atoms that make up the molecules in your body are not destroyed when you die but are rearranged to form new mostly simpler molecules (decomposition).

Atoms aren't really alive in the first place. They simply interact by forming compounds, molecules and cells and act as channels for electrical impulses. The configurations change in our bodies and then change again when we die. But, they're still just atoms and usually end up buried or burned away.

All the differnt types of atoms in our bodies can be found in a scoop of dirt. They are just arranged differently. The atoms break down when we die, aka rot.

Atoms are not alive. They simply "live on" in another form. Eg. Your body will decompose and the atoms that were once part of your body will turn to dirt, gasses, etc.

The atoms of the body or any entity live on in another form of substance after death/status change.

Some will die and some will live on. As your body decomposes some atoms will move on in the form of methane, others will seep in to the ground and be absorbed by insects or plants - they will be changed but they will live on. Nothing in the universe is wasted, matter is changed to constantly benefit life! I hope that answers your question. Take care.

Atoms do not die. There are always the same amount of atoms in the universe. (Except, I would imagine, when they split them, though I am uncertain.)
