A woman you really liked told you she wasn't ready for a relationship because she just got out of one. Then a month later she asked if you were seeing someone special, asked if she could call on a personal level and wanted to you to come to a work conference but said it wasn't like you could date because you live too far apart, what would you think she wanted? Would you travel to the conference to be with her?

She wants you, but wants assurance that you will be there for her in a long distance relationship.

It's hard to read between the lines with this stuff. I'd take her at her word. In other words, assume she doesn't "want to" date. If you want to go to the conference (meaning I guess if you enjoy her company), I'd go ahead and go, but you should not have expectations that it will be anything more than a companionship thing.

She may be having second thoughts about what she initially told you about not being "ready," but unless she comes out and says that, you really don't know. So don't make any other assumptions about what she wants or what she is trying to say.

My conclusion is that she doesn't know what she wants. "Personal level" would lead one to conclude she wants a friend and that'd be cool. But not date because you're too far apart? That doesn't compute very well. I'd go to the conference only if it would benefit me for work--or she was VERY intriguing and interesting.
