I have a watercolor painting about 6 X 30 in size(approximate) that I need help with info on the artist. I bought this at an auction because it is very interesting. Its a painting of a lake with houses surrounding it and all the houses have red roofs. Some simple boats on the water and a few people walking along the water. The people seem to look like they are mexican. (possibly wearing mexican sumbreros)? The Signature looks like PIACENTE? its hard to tell because the signature is sweeping at the n. The signature also has a u type sweep over the c. If anyone can tell me any info I would greatly appretiate it.

Domenico Piacente, as I understand, worked in oils. (the site I looked at was in another language, Italian I think, but i'm fairly certain that olio means oils) But, it could be. Water colors were origianally used as pre- paintings, ones they did before they ever picked up an oil brush. those are the only two pics that were found in google image search.

Sounds like a painting from Spain, especially the red roofs point toward Spain, it could also be Italy, but my bet is on Spain. Have the painting appraised and they will know much more about it.
