Dachshunds. You do have to bathe them once in a while, and make sure the ears stay clean. Get a female, they don't......ummm....... "snarfle" at themselves the way males do. (you know what I mean)

I'm not so sure that a dog is a good idea for you. All dogs shed to some degree or another- and allergies are related more to the dogs dander than the actualy shedding, though that irritates them-. The amount a dog smells is really dependant on how dirty your dog likes to get. I've known some very dainty little maltese that loved to play in the mud and dirt.
You need to ask yourself some important questions: what is my life style (i.e. do i need an active dog, couch potato, do i spend a lot of time outside etc), what amount of time to have to spend with the dog, and whether the addition of a dog into the household would be a good idea.
Secondly, smart dogs and easy to train do not go hand-in-hand. Generally, dumb dogs are easier to train because they do not bored, try to out-smart you, test you or want you to make it "worth their while". Thus, you need to re-evaluate what you mean by smart and easy to train...smart dogs do pick-up on things quickly, but you have the previously mentioned qualities.
What are the members of your household? Do you intend on adding to your family (i.e. cats, children etc) in the near future? Do you rent or own- some dogs are more vocal than others, so this can be of concern. What do you want this dog for (companionship, competitive events (i.e. agility, flyball etc)?
Answer some of these, and I can direct you better. That being said, I do not recommend a Jack russel as they are very high energy dogs and full of mischief (i do not dislike the breed...they have a lot of character, but would recommend them to few people)

Small dogs tend to be hyper and stubborn, plus harder to house break.
All dogs shed, unless you get a breed that requires routine (and sometimes costly) grooming by a professional.
All dogs have an odor...just like all people have an odor.
I suggest choosing a dog based on the exercise, grooming, and training YOU are able to give it. If you want a pet that will sit in a corner and only be seen/heard from when you want it to, then do not get a dog!!!
Training takes consistancy, and most dogs respond quicker and more successfully to positive reinforcement training.
Your best bet would be to an adopt and older dog from a shelter or rescue, which may already have been trained basic obedience as well as house broke.
Do a search on http://www.petfinder.com for dogs in your area...
Thank you for taking the time to do some research before getting the first dog you see and fall in love with! By taking this time, you will be much happier when you do bring your new dog home!!

There is no such creature. You can get a small dog but all dogs shed & all dogs bark & it is up to you on the potty training, obedience training. Owners have to put a lot of effort into training their dogs & so will you. Nothing about dog training is easy when you don't know what to do. Thank God for the internet. Look up potty trainging a puppy house breaking a puppy Basic obedience commands Basic obedience training Stop puppy biting fun tricks to teach your dog stop excessive barking You have LOTS to LEARN. Good luck Oh, look up 'hypoallergenic breeds of dogs', that gives you information on lots of breeds that shed less or have hair instead of a coat..........

Well, first of all, there is no such thing as a none allergic dog to get that stright! there are such things as none shedding but if you are looking for none allergic, there is no such thing. People are allergic to the dead skin cells and ever to dog saliva.
Second of all, small dogs are hard! They need special traing because of there size.
All dogs smell! they get into dirt, trach, wet grass and ever roll in there own vomit some times. You can reduce this problem by training and keeping ur dogs coat heathy(diet, brushing and bathing)
All dogs are smart. But knowing there backround will help with this. All dogs have a flaw. Like Hounds such a begals will be harder to teach how to walk on leash because on there indepnets. Unteters males may want to wonder of the smell of a girl in heat. I suggest the toy poodle, maltese or ****-zu. They only have a single coat.
About there coat. these dogs need daily grooming and need to wear prtection in cold weather becasue they do not have undercoat to keep them warm,
I say malese, ****-zu or toy poodle!

Maybe you should re considering getting a dog you seem like you are asking too much. Most dogs shed just a matter of how much. the same for smell. all dogs have a distinct odor. As far as training goes.. any dog is good when the owner takes the time and puts in effort , Good luck! maybe a dog isn't for you

I have a Jack Russell, and she hardly ever smells, but she does shed. Believe it or not, the rough/broken coat sheds LESS than the smooth coat! They are extremely smart, therefore can be very difficult to train. Plus, they need a ton of attention and excercise. I love my JRT more than anything, but they are not the dog for everyone.
I have had experiences with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and I LOVE this dog. They are all about love- yes, they want to play, and run, but they are lap dogs. However, they are very expensive.
Rescuing a dog is also always something to consider.......(I rescued my JRT, so I practice what I preach....lol)

A shih tzu
I have one and she is the cutest little dog you would ever see.
they are a hypoallergenic dog, and i trained mine within 1 week.. she never sheds either.. my cat sheds more than my dog. They are very loving and will become your best friend iinstantlyy.
They get to be anwhere from 9-14 pounds. mainly if your dog is an inside dog.. (which im hoping if you want a small one) they dont really smell.. i mean youll have to take her to the groomers once in a while..but i think you cannot go wrong with a shih tzu

A stuffed one. You are asking alot of a dog, all dogs smell at some point. Any dog can be trained if you spend the time to do it right. Most small or toy breeds have a small attention span, making them hard to train.
Hope you find what you're looking for.

No dog is perfect. Lower your expectations a little. Just think it takes 2 or 3 years to potty train a baby. And they smell pretty bad at times, we just love them anyway! A chihuahua is the best small dog, or dog of any size for that matter.

My opinion is a poodle, or a schnauzer. Both are smart easy to train, and do not shed. Both make great pets. Jack Russell terrier's are also very smart, but I am unsure if they shed?
