In Ekekiel 28:11-16, we read; Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God....the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned...

What Was Satan's Original Sin?

Well, since you quote the bible passage, I think you must already know that most Bible teachers believe that pride was Satan's original sin. Because of His pride, He rebelled against God.

But there is another answer, one I find fascinating:

Notice the phrase you quote "Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth". If this passage indeed is talking about Satan, it has occurred to me that it gives us a great insight into what happened in the Garden of Eden: Satan was there from the begining as a "cherub that covereth" - or, in our words today, a "guardian angel". Satan was assigned to be earth's "guardian"! That's why He was there! But, as the Lord God formed man, jealousy rose in His heart! Satan was jealous of Adam! Therefore, He tempted Eve and caused the great fall of man.

As God cursed the Serpent, Satan "fell" from God's grace in the heavenlies .

Interestingly, ancient Jewish tradition has the rebellion of Satan begin in the garden of Eden....

someday we shall know more....

god bless

Yup thats us "the Church" Catholic is a Latin word so you would have to be reading a latin bible to find it. Anywhere where it says "the Church" that is us. Keep reading the Book of Acts and the Letters of Paul describe Holy mass, the Eucharist, Bishops, deacons, priests, and all of our practices including Purgatory(the place of final purification before heaven). Keep studying and you will find out that all the other denominations are at the most, 500 years old(except the Orthodox which are the same age as Catholics and essentially the same). Most American denominations are less than one hundred years old and started because they did not get along with the last group they were part of. Lastly, the bible was not written until the third century by Catholics. It has been preserved and brought to you by Catholics and the Church was called just the Church or the Universal Church for a thousand years(until it split in two-sadly). The first couple hundred years after Jesus The Church in much of the Roman world was persecuted but it still remained active and grew by leaps and bounds. Most of our practices that Americans find strange or do not understand as biblical are just different than you are expecting and many protestants suffer from the propaganda of Mormons and J.W.'s who are not Christian at all. (by the way these verses are referring to those who come against the Church: Acts 20:29-30 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.") Learn from Gamaliel: Acts 5: 34-39

The verses you cite are Ezekiel's (not Ekikiel's) prophecy toward The King of Tyre. They have nothing to do with Satan.

By the way, Satan told the truth in the Garden of Eden. He said that they would not die if they ate the fruit (and they didn't). And they attained wisdom. God was so scared that they would eat the other fruit and become immortal that God threw them out of the Garden. What, was God afraid of competition?

The first sin was when Adam turned his back on God in disobedience and went his own way. That was the first bite of the forbidden tree of the knowledge of mortal error, which was the foundation for every other evil to build upon. Today, each human must undue what Adam did for us, and it is a narrow path in this world, and many reject it and call it foolishness.

I've heard that Satan's sin had to do with his outer beauty. I think there is a verse about him just having outer glory (as opposed to inner) and he got prideful about it. But like one of the answers, also has something to do with the fact that he wanted to be God. So, not sure if scriptural.

pride.
He was around the throne of God so much that Lucifer wanted to "be God." He felt he could get a third of the angels to rebel and take over the throne and be worshipped as God. (isaiah 14:12-16)
He still desires to be worshipped as God today.

This is God's Word about Satan, i.e. Lucifer.

Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

God knew what Satan said in his heart, I, I, I, I, and I.
I will ascend into heaven
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds
I will be like the most High

This is referring to Satan's rebellion in the first earth age.

Rev 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
Rev 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

Satan's tail, i.e. close followers drew 1/3 of God's children.

I think it was mostly pride and then also some greed. He thought he could be just as good as God, if not better. I'll look for a scripture, if someone else doesn't come up with it first.
