I don't want to breed it. I just want to know what sex it is lol. I'm pretty sure it's a girl. It has the barring under the tail, grey crest, and light cheeks. It is very affectionate and cuddly and doesn't make any noise except when she gets a little irritated. So, I'm thinking it's a girl. I'm just wondering when I will know for sure and when to start looking for eggs if it is a female.

6-8 months is when most cockatiel females will breed. The sex is difficult to determine on looks unless there are eggs. hehehehe. That would be a no-brainer, huh? If in doubt call 1-800-514-9672 and these people specialize in bird sexing through DNA. It involves chest feathers (5) or blood like from a closely clipped toe nail. Good luck and have a tweet good year.

Cockatiels can lay eggs at 6 to 8 months old, altho' I would wait to breed them until they are at least a year old. Males mature to a breeding age at around 9 months, but are not as able to fertilize the eggs sufficiently until they are 18 months or older.

I don't know, but pray to god yours isn't like mine. I have one girl who lays eggs like crazy. She looks at the mirror in her cage and gets excited and starts laying eggs
