yes. i know what you're going to say...
straighten it.. and trust me i have. every day. for about two years now.

i know its not naturally poofy.. like it probably doesnt grow out of my head that way.. becaause until 3 years ago, it was perfectly straight, silky, flat, smooth.. you name it. it was like, perfect.
but then i started blowdrying it (even though it would end up frizzy) and eventually it turned out like this.
my hair is still generally straight.. a few waves here and there, but i really dont care about them......

what can i do to get it back to being flat.
so i dont NEED TO straighten it anymore?

I had the same problem and several products helped me tremendously. I use Garnier Sleek and Shine shampoo and conditioner. Since using these 3 months ago, my hair is not as puffy and rebellious. I also use a serum called Kerastase Oleo-Relax. Although this serum is very expensive, you can get it off of ebay for much lesser price. This does wonders in taming hair and keeping hair healthy. You use a couple of drops of this when your hair is wet and another couple of drops when your hair is dry. Your hair will never look puffy or flat and greasy. Great product-

i have the SAME problem!!!

its usually the end that gets poofy and then it makes the rest of my hair look big.

so what i did was cute about 2 - 3 inches off the end and it was straight again.
but u should find out how fast ur hair grows back by cutting a little part of hair shorter and see how fast it grows back. my hair grow back in about 3-4 weeks, so it depends on the person

if that doesnt work, as a beautician for help on what kind of shampoos or oils u can put on ur hair

I used to have the same problem...there are straightening products that give a semi-permanent to permanent fix to your hair. They can usually be found in the african-american hair care section, but can work on all races.
After you use this product once, you shouldn't have to straighten your hair for at least a month or two.

This is the answer to your problem: if you can possibly get a hircut tell your hairdresser to thin your hair this is called thinning and your hair will be straight and sleek no dought about it.

just have a stylist give you a free consultation. it's difficult to determine your problem and solution via internet.
