I'll give you three:
1. Christian homosexual men shamed into marrying heterosexual women, but then finding themselves sneaking around having sex with men. When they're found out, they, their wives, and their children suffer massively.
2. The blocking of science education and medical research over religious dogma. (Other countries are starting to move ahead of the US in medical research, and talented medical researchers will travel to those countries where they can work unencumbered by religious zealots.)
3. Christians opposing efforts to halt global warming because they assume God will take care of it.

Closed mindedness...the only people who should not be accepted by society is those who cause harm to others. Putting down gays, atheists, etc. shouldn't hold any weight from any religion or group of people. Just because someone doesn't think exactly the same as another doesn't mean either of the 2 are wrong- it's simply a matter of thought processes and how a particular person was raised. The world should look soley toward creating the greatest amount of happiness possible.

Well it stunts scientific research in the US. An example of this is stem cell research. Also, if Christians had their way abortion would be illegal so there would be more crime. Abortion lowers crime. There are a lot more negative effects of religion, but these are 2 that can't be argued with.

Let's see. Christians started this country. Christians successfully structured this country. Christians started the public school system. Christianity was taught to all our youth and you didn't hear about kids in the 17 and 18 00's taking their muskets to school and shooting up their friends or smoking dope.
Late 60's, some atheist family gets pissed off and sues public school. No more God in school. It all went downhill from there. Now people want to remove God entirely from our nation and put Christianity "in the closet." Coincidentally, look at our society now. Hmmmm....

Many people use it as a justification to fall prey to their own inner darkness. This brings them farther away from God and its very sad. :( Also people interpret their holy books literally so things given to men thousands of years ago isn't exactly as applicable today in the modern world. We can look at the muslims and see their inability to come into the 21st century as a consequence of taking a holy book literally as opposed to reading it from an allegorical sense.

Religion prevents new scientific developments from coming through. It also distorts our education system by twisting the truth and putting blatant lies in our public schools.

only when the freedom of religion is being stripped away like today.
When freedom of speech is demanded but religion can't be part of the speech, then America needs either a return to its roots or watch it destroy itself from the inside.
The latter is coming...

Their overwhelming hypocrisy, ie wanting prayer in schools as long as it's a prayer to the God they pray to, has just simply become aggravating that grown adults can be so narrow inded.
