No. That's cruel. Cats aren't like dogs.
Get a flea shampoo or powder designed specifically for cats, and start treating her with the flea medicine that goes between the shoulder blades, also specifically for cats.

No you don't need to shave her. Just bathe your cat in a REGULAR PET SHAMPOO to get rid of the fleas, then the next day apply Frontline, Revolution, or Advantage from your vet. Do NOT use a flea shampoo as many of these are TOXIC to cats despite what the label says. Regular shampoo, as long as you suds it up and get it all over the body, will kill any fleas that are on your cat. The topical insecticide (Advantage, etc) will kill any remaining fleas, repel any that come near and kill any that jump on. If you have a lot of fleas in your house, you will need to also treat the house or it will take a few months for them to go away.
Also, somebody else mentioned Advantix which is TOXIC to cats and for use only in dogs. So make sure you let you get Advantage or something specifically for cats. Don't use the over the counter Hartz or other brand because they don't have the same chemicals and many cats have serious reactions to them. Be safe and get the good stuff that works from your vet.

No! Chances are the fleas are in the house; not just on the host. You need to get something like FrontLine that will cause the fleas to die when they bite, it's the only way to break the cycle. In the meantime, use a comb on your cat as it's pretty effective for trapping fleas between the teeth; then dunk them in a container of hot soapy water so that they die. Have the container near by as fleas can jump fast! Stay away from powder and house bombs, it only alleviates the problem for a short while. Then the new flea eggs that are most likely in your carpet will hatch!

Good luck trying to shave a cat!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL! try Advantage or Frontline instead! DO NOT get the cheap stuff they sell in the stores like Hartz. I'm talking about the tubes. It doesn't work and you will just be wasting your money. Also you put this stuff on behind their head. Split the hair like you are combing it into a part and drop the liquid on. DO NOT RUB IT IN! It burns like acid if you do that! You can buy it from the vet with out taking the cat in for a visit. This stuff really works. You really don't have to dunk the cats or shampoo them with this stuff. It should kill the fleas without doing anything else.

If your cat has short hair, there is no need to shave her. If your cat has long fur(like a Persian), you might want to try to get her hair cut short.
It is NOT a good idea to shave a cat because of the stress it causes mentally and physically. If you do shave her, expect signs of shock such as shaking, hiding, not eating, throwing up, etc.
It is better to just keep the hair short and use flea medication as adviced by your vet. If you are not using anything from the vet, follow the directions carefully. Usual flea shampoo will cause skin sensitivity and can only be used once a month.

there's a lot of advantages to shaving your cat. many folks will tell you it's hard to do, but if you wrap it up in a towel first, it can't get away and you can shave it one part at a time.
1) fleas won't have nowhere's to live, so they'll die of exposure, like a bum during a new york winter.
2) no more hairballs, because hairballs are maid of hair.
3) if you know someone what's allergic to cats, if you shave your cat then they won't be.
4) easier to wash them, because you can just spray them off with the hose instead of giving a full bath.

NO don't shave the cat. Try flea powder and treating where the cat lives.

Go to your vet and ask for Revolution flea treatment, it also works on ear mites. It's a monthly treatment, that usually kills the fleas on your cat within 24 to 48 hours.

No you dont shave a cat becasue of fleas, fleas like the blood source not the hair. Try washing your cat, in lemon joy and rinse very well, or buy a flea shampoo for cats.

No you shouldn't shave her, that won't help. You need to give her a good shampoo with flea shampoo, and get a product like Frontline Plus for Cats from your Vet.
