The mom will usually start to ween the pups at around 4 weeks, just make sure the pups are in a contained area like a box, that the mom can come and go. Try offering watered down puppy chow to the pups at about 4 weeks as well.

The mom will wean the puppies at the appropriate time.. most dogs wean at around 4 weeks but I have heard of some that will nurse until the pups are 7-8 wks old..
Put water out when mom starts to wean the puppies so the pups kidneys will start to work correctly.
Also, if she weans at the 4 wk mark... to supplement the diet use egg mixed with a little canned dog food and some cottage cheese or yogurt. Mix and warm slightly in microwave

My golden retriever had puppies about 3 monthes ago. At 4 weeks we put water out and they drank it but still liked to nurse. I guess for comfort, just like babies. But mine were all still nursing until they left. I don't think they were getting much of their nutrional intake from it, since they were eating loads of dry food and drinking alot of water. I had the last puppy (of 11!) leave christmas morning and she was almost 9 weeks old and still nursed. The vet said this was very unusual that most dogs start weaning at 4-5 weeks. My dog also "took care" of the puppies waste until they left, which was also not common (to go on that long). The vet said she was just a really good mom and maybe a bit compulsive. You shouldn't have to do anything though the mother will take care of it herself.

Once you begin feeding solids...weaning has begun!!! It is a GRADUAL process from the time solids anr given until they are off to new homes. It is a natural process and should never be done by taking the puppies away suddenly. As they eat more food, they nurse less and soon they are only nursing for comfort and not for nutrition. This easy process is the best for the puppies and the dam.

They should be fully weaned by 7 weeks, but the puppies may start nibbling on dry puppy food as early as 3 weeks. I would just soak the dry food in water and mash it up and start offering that at about 3 weeks. Also, they should not go to their new homes until 10 weeks.

Puppies usually start weening about 4 weeks of age and are fully weened by 6 weeks. Some nurse a little longer depending on how many there are and how long the mother tolerates it, but most are weened by 6 weeks.

You don't - the mother does it. You can start feeding them dry puppy food moistened with warm water twice a day at 4 weeks. Give them about 15 mins. to eat and let the mom finish it off. They also need fresh water available several times a day. The mother will have them totally weaned around 6 weeks at which time you need to feed them 3 times a day with fresh water always available.

Weaning can start when the puppy is about 3-4 weeks old (when their eyes are open, their teeth are coming in and they can start finding and handling solid food). Start slowly by adding semi-soft food like rice pablum and raw hamburger to the pups' diet, and then cycle in hard kibble slowly. (If you force solid food on them too quickly, it can lead to severe diarrhea and colitis.)
Mom may continue to nurse them periodically until they're about 6 weeks old, but after that, they have all of their baby teeth and mom won't tollerate being nipped as they try to nurse.
