I have tried a few as I am divorced and live in a small town area and it's hard to meet new people. Yahoo is okay but it's mostly just dating for fun and guys who are oversexed and want barbie dolls - not relationships. Eharmony is good if you are looking for a relationship and are willing to pay for their services. It takes a lot to use eharmony as their process is quite demanding. Match.com isn't bad - but you really do most of the screening of the B.S. Meter yourself. STAY AWAY from True.com - it is a rip off! There are many others that are free or very cheap but truth be told you get what you pay for!
It all depends on what you are looking for! My personal preference as I am looking for a long term relationship is EHarmony. I also know it works as a dear friend of mine found his wife there! And they are very happy and never would have met each other except thru EHarmony as he lived in USA and she lived in South America.
Good Luck in the New Year finding your True Love!

When you see what their agenda is in their profile such as: "Romantic" "Passionate" " loves to cuddle by warm fires". Translated it means the man is a sex addict looking to get laid. Ask around I had one man tell me his novel was accepted in New York to be made into a film. Yet when I read it it was nothing more than a paragraph written by a 12 year old .This same man also told me men on these sights pass women around for sex and the poor women don't even know it! Read between the lines and if he is divorced why?. I hear E. Harmony checks their criminal backgrounds.Use your head and not your heart when weeding out unsuitable dates. I'm sure there are a few sincere men on these sites but again they are few and far between!

I don't think there's anything wrong with meeting someone line and possibly pursuing them if they meet your criteria. Granted there are some sick mofo's out there but there's also a lot of good hearted men and women just looking for the right person.

I tried it once because of a dare from a friend.
What I found was that about 70% of the guys were looking for one night stands and lovers (no commitment, completely insincere), 20% were super shy and lacked confidence to approach a girl in real life, 10% needed to see a psycologist to help with their sexual/horny issues for.

I actually used Yahoo personals, but it was over 5 years ago, when it was FREE. I met a couple of people, one turned out to be a very special person. I have met some people from http://www.craigslist.com . Good luck.

I can tell you that my son met his wife from Yahoo dating service. He found a woman his age that lived near him, he had actually been in the same large high school with her but never met her and they had similar interests and friends. It takes a while. Be discriminating and don't give up. Meanwhile, keep networking with your friends.
