HAPPY NEW YEARS TO YOU TOO!
We have good old black eyed peas, greens of some sort, collards, turnips, mustard or cabbage, we have the greens because green means money. I have heard of people putting coins in the bottom of individual bowls of greens for wealth in the new year.

We always eat Chitterlings and black-eyed peas, every New Years. I was on the net to look for some ways to fix them, because I cook them every year and want to see if there are any new ways to fix them.

We grew up having to eat pork and sauerkraut and mashed potatoes every New Year's Day. The pork was always way too fatty, and sauerkraut gives me indigestion, but I always had to eat some anyway. It didn't seem like good luck to me!

Eh... nothing, I wasn't aware you had to eat something for good luck.
It DOES explain one or two things though... :-)
