She's 14months old and small, I pick her up alot by her underarms, she doesn't yelp or bite or anything like that, she actually sorta jumps her front paws on my arms when I go to pick her up. If I keep picking her up by her underarms, will it cause any shoulder damage? She's only 16lbs.

There is nothing wrong with picking up your Beagle and she clearly likes being held, but you need to be sure to pick her up correctly. Picking her up by the underarms and carrying her with your hands/fingers underneath the elbows can push her elbows out.

I'll do my best to describe a good method to pick her up, but could show you better. When you pick her up, use her rib cage/chest area to pick her up. I would actually recommend teaching her to either jump into your arms when you bend down or turning so her rear-end faces you. This way you can pick her up easier (or not at all) without possibly damaging her elbows.

I don't think it will if she's not yelping, but you do realize that you're kinda humanizing her by picking her up a lot? I've always thought it was better not to pick up a dog her jumps on you because it encourages that behaviour and she might do it to other people as well, and that's when it gets a little annoying. But if you like babying her, I don't think it will hurt her. I picked up my dog a lot like this, but I had to retrain her not to jump on people when I realized that picking her up while she's pawing me encourages her to jump and paw other people too.

I do the same thing with my 5 month old Bichonpoo. She weighs 6 pounds. I don't see any harm in it. My puppy loves to be picked up and cuddled.

I would try to support her more on her brest plate than under the arms, she shouldnt be lifted like a baby from under the arms. It can dislocate their arms and joints no matter their weight over time.

I don't think it will cause a problem. She would let you know if it was hurting her. Sounds like she is prompting you to pick her up like a little child would.
