There are a lot of reasons a happy, healthy puppy can have diarhea. First, I would recommend bring a stool sample to your veterinarian. This way they can check for intestinal parasites; certain intestinal parasites cause diarhea in perfectly happy puppies. Also keep in mind, that you may want to repeat a stool check in another weak, as the parasites shed eggs at different stages- thus a dog can have parasites but show no evidence because no eggs are being shed. The stool should be very fresh.

Another possibility is that the food does not agree with his/her stomache. Some foods are easier to digest than others and some foods just do not work well for certain dogs. But I would have a stool sample before you consider changing foods.

A third possibility is that because you have a puppy, he/she could have stuck themselves into something that does not agree with their system. Puppies tend to get into things, no matter how diligent you are. But I would still recommend starting with a stool check.

Talk with your Vet re. this, and ask for guidelines on what are signs the animal needs to be seen.
Due to their small body mass, you can get into life-threatening dehydration within 1 to 2 days.
This is serious & nothing to try home remedies on without the supervision of a Vet.
Don't go by the animal's attitude, Bichon's are so lively & upbeat that if you wait for it to get mopey, it's probably too late. You do not have the luxury of waiting until after the Holiday weekend, this needs attending to NOW.
Check with the Vet & you & your little fur baby can start the New Year in better shape :)

Make sure you are feeding it what the breeder was. I also have a puppy thats six weeks old (english bulldog). I feed him Purina beniful for puppies, its easy to digest. Don't ever add water to make a gravy this causes diarrhea. My breeder told me to add a tablespoon of pedigree puppy food in a can to about a half cup of the dry beniful three times a day. This works out great for us.......Good Luck!!

If he is in high spirits, it may be a case of colitis.

He may start to throw up or have bloody stools, without losing his joy and playfulness. Anyhow, you must see the vet. Meanwhile, put him in a strict pasta or steamed rice diet and make sure he drinks plenty of water, to avoid dehydration.

If he vomits or has bloody stools, remember: colitis looks a lot worse than it really is and don't go crazy with anxiety, but keep him well hydrated.

Whatever you do, SEE THE VET ASAP.

I too have a Bichon Frise such lovely fur babies!

S/he probably ate something s/he shouldn't have. To stop the runs, make a mixture of regular cooked hamburger with cooked white rice. It is bland diet. S/he should have this for all meals for the next 2 days. After that s/he ought to be swell.

Hugs to you all.

His food may be disagreeing with his tummy. Call the vet ASAP. Little puppies can dehydrate quickly and it can turn into a life threatening situation.

There could be many reasons. Be sure you are only feeding it dog food. (Puppy food) No table scraps. The dog could dehydrate so if it continues you should take it to a vet.

Has he eatten anything bad? If you give him table food, don't give him that. But for some puppies that is normal for them. It looks like diarea but its not. Check for anything in the poop too just in case he ate something.
