I've had him for over a year. He goes on my hand and I can kiss him on the belly but he flies off to the mirrors in the room after a few seconds and won't fly to my hand or shoulder as my previous budgies have done. He seems to lack attitude and a mentality of discovering the room. He just goes to the mirrors all the time (2 places). I had 2 budgies previously who lacked fear - one would fly to me and nibble my ear and sometimes bite (which this one would never do) and the other I could pick up and turn over and tickle her ear and her feathers would raise up on her head. I don't seem to be able to bond with this one and stop his fear.

If you can't catch him, try turning off the light and tossing a thin cloth over him and then picking him up with the cloth (being careful to hold firmly, but not tight enough to squeeze, and don't put pressure on his chest). Then turn the light back on so you can see where the nails and the quick are. It helps to have someone help you, one person to hold the budgie's body and the other to hold each foot still while they clip. The bird will complain loudly, but he'll be fine. Talk to him softly during the process and maybe give him some millet when you're done. Also, have some flour or cornstarch on hand to stop the bleeding if you accidentally cut a nail too short.

budgies are naturally flocking birds. this is why they can make such good pets as they transfer the instinct to bond and flock onto humans. given the choice however they will seek the companionship of a fellow budgie more given the option. your budgie is simply seeing his reflection in the mirrors and trying to bond with the 'other budgie'.

if he has been constantly like this then he's being distracted from bonding with you and i would suggest covering the mirrors while he's out. also, to speed things up a little try a treat every time he returns to you.

when your budgie is out cover the mirrors up. it thinks it's another budgie and therefore is more interested in it than in you. We had a hand reared budgie exceptionally tame sat with you all the time until it discovered the mirror, so i did the same covered it up and he reverted back to how he was before.

my two male budgies are the same . it takes time and perseverance if your take it small steps at a time . try holding their fav food while trying to touch their back or belly or what ever your want . but as long as your make it part of the routine it should get easier. it worked for me.

try giving your budgie a treat when is comes to you don't force the bird to stay go move quickly when you are holding it. Try to pet it slowly on the back.
