What, are you crazy? Why would I want to do that?I will just get whatever sounds good or the latest flavor and when it bites me or my kids I will dump it at the pound so he can bite someone Else's kids. Of course I will have to get rid of all the freakin designer clothes I got him, and the shoes, but, maybe not, I will keep them for the next POS I will get. Oh Tyke, we are all dreaming that some people here or out there will actually put the dog before their needs. I am absolutely amazed at some of the answers, never mind the questions. "My pit/shepherd/poodle/POS bit me today and almost killed my kid, what do I do?" And the answer is? "Well, he just needs love, please treat him kindly and do not get him off your bed that he uses for his private toilet. Let him bite the kid, he is probably a brat anyway." I sit here and shake my head in amazement and wonder, "where do these people get their ideas from?" And you are asking people to do research before they buy a dog? It seems that the only people interested in any REAL DOG related material are the few people here who do some work with their dogs. Oh well. And please don't leave this site, it will never be fun again and most people here have said they want you to stay.
Happy New Year to you and everyone one else

Well if people actually researched before getting a dog most would not get one but then how would they follow the newest fads.
BTW I know there is a such thing as teacup yorkiedoodle -poo my neighbor owns one. LOL
Yes I do know where to find all of the info, it's a great site with much to offer.Too bad others do not look!!!
Maybe if they made AKC a TV show or if they could download the info on their ipods people would discover and learn.

Actually, AKC is an excellent site for breeds that are recognized by the American Kennel Club, but there are lots of breeds out there that are not. Most of them are considered rare in the U.S. but are common in other countries.
At any rate, everyone should research before they buy a purebred dog. It is important to know what your dog was designed to do.
As a trainer, the most frustrating questions I get are the ones that could have been avoided with research:
Why does my Sheltie bark a lot?
Why does my Jack Russell Terrier dig?
Why does my Golden Retriever steal things and carry them?
Why does my Beagle ignore me when he's following a scent?
Why does my husky 1)shed a lot 2)run away
Why does my GSD trot the perimeter of my house, barking?

I researched my breed for over a year before I purchase one, and I wish people would too instead of just going out and buying a puppy at the petstore. If you want a mix breed, go to your local shelter and get one. Do not but from the puppymills and the "breeders" of the mutts.

Sure do. Have some good dogs that fit nicely with the family too.
Tho the AKC is the prominent one in the US, and tho it is well established and reputable, it sure isn't the only reputable registry out there. They don't recognize all breeds either. Many of the rare breed clubs don't wish to conform to the AKC and so have refused their breed to become part of that.

My family has gotten two purebred AKC Irish Setters, fully pedigreed and from champion lines...from a poker game.
We've gotten a purebred English Springer Spaniel (AKC) from a pet store, back before everyone knew the evils of pet stores. We found another English Springer Spaniel at a truck stop and welcomed him into our home.
We currently have two mutts, a German Shephard/Golden Retriever and a lhasa apso mix (at least, I think he's a mix), from people who were suddenly unable to care for them anymore.
And you know what? They've all been GREAT dogs.

like the rare red nose pit, lol.
This is so true, why do people buy puppies from parking lots then wonder why they are sick or not purebreed?
Even then purebreed AKC papers can be forged by breeders, so check your breeder out too, make sure they are trust worthy reputable breeders, ask for references from prior litters, and if they offer a health garuntee of any kind. If this is the females first breeding then ask for a vet reference or wait till a second breeding.

I really think less than HALF of the people getting a dog have ACTUALLY done ANY research on the breed they are getting!!!
And by REAL, I do not just mean how the thing LOOKS!!! They NEVER think about the personality, cost, space requirements, or any REAL thing about the dog. And of that half..HALF of those should not own ANY dog!!
I am sure all of us who breed for REAL can attest to the sheer number of people we have refused to sell to for that very reason!!! It is sad and THAT is why so many dogs are dumped at shelters each year. Not due to good breeders who SCREEN, but from all the other sources that are just out to sell to any dufus with the money!!
Very sad for the dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is such a SAD commentary on our society when SOOOO many people spend SOOO much time on the computer and yet use it for NO LEARING purpose AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

You are the King of slipping them by YA's question Gestapo! How do you do it? I think I have had more questions deleted than anyone...and not one pertained to sex with DAWGS, which they DO let through. They don't like mine that are designed to make people think (like this) and research before they hand some scam artist $1000+ for a mutt they should have gotten from a shelter, or would have better spent on a legitimate, well-bred purebred.
Keep it up!

Remember not to buy puppies from a pet store. They support puppy mills. The $2,500 u r spending on that cute little puppy is probley worth a meer $100 because all you are getting is a sick puppy and a bunch of vet bills in the future! So plex, Don't support this cause!!!! Buy from shelters and or breeders!!!!
thanks
