The atheist aren't the only ones who offend the ones who believe, there are many other who offend different religions, each one thinking theirs is the only true religion!

Atheists don't call god names. That's not even a possibility for an atheist. If you ever hear anyone calling themselves an atheist and then calling god names, they're lying about being atheist.
Calling god Jesus, or Yahweh or Jehovah or Allah or Baal, or Odin or Zeus is calling god names, and it's not something an atheist would do. As soon as you call god a name, any name, it doesn't matter what , you're not an atheist anymore. That's rather the point.
As for going out of their way to offend those who believe.. well, again, I have to question the premise of the statement. Those who believe go out of their way to offend those who don't all the time. The moment those who believe say, either directly or indirectly, that those who don't believe (agree with them) are somehow inferior, they cause offence.

Some atheists may have some personal reasons for acting this way. Anger and frustration over a bad experience relating to either feeling betrayed by God or possibly having a bad experience through a member of the clergy. If this makes them feel better I won't hold it against them. In this type of forum you need to have a thicker skin and not take things to personally. You will be exposed to a wide range of beliefs and ideas when reading both the questions and answers. This may be unsettling for some but it is the nature of the world that we live in. Consider this answer an bit of respect from an atheist. We aren't all bad.

Pot, kettle, black! What about the Christians (especially the ones in this thread) who say that atheists are "wrong", "lost" or "sinful"? I've never heard of atheists insulting believers but if they do, they're probably doing it to show religious types what it feels like to be insulted. Give atheists some respect and you might get some back.

Whoa, don't put all atheists in that category. I'm atheist, and yet I was raised by a sweet Southern Baptist grandmother, and I would never disrespect a Christian or anybody else. I work in a Christian nursing home, and I don't feel uncomfortable with any of the people, and I don't feel insulted by any of them with they pray or hang decorations on the wall about Christ. I might make a little fun with some Christians, but only if I feel they've either deliberately attacked me first, and I still won't make a big deal of it. I've seen a lot of atheists get on a high and mighty pedestal, just as some megapreachers do, and I don't like it. Around my Christian family, I keep my secular opinions to myself. I was born and raised in the South, and we're taught manners about religion (or most people are, I'm talking about the true Southern ladies and gentlemen, not the backwoods rednecks). I've poked fun at some Christians who've belittled me, but at the same token, I've also teased my Wiccan sister about her crystals, wands, and talk of fairies. Anytime I tease someone over religion, it's lighthearted and only with someone that I know could tease me back. So if I ever met you and I teased you a little, it's only because I'm comfortable with you and would expect a little ribbing back, but I would never purposefully insult you, and if I did, I would apologize. Not all of us are assholes, just the really loud and obnoxious atheists are the ones who get heard the most.

As atheists don't believe in "god", its highly unlikely that they call your fictional diety anything. Your question doesn't seem to be based on any actual evidence (surprise, surprise!).
Just because atheists views are different from yours, it doesn't mean that they are offending those who believe. It is just different from you.
Respect is something you have to earn. It annoys me to think that "believers" automatically think they deserve respect. If religious types are anything to go by, then they wouldn't earn respect very quickly.

I think the atheists are getting a lot more **** than their putting out. Especially from Christians. It makes sense that they're would lose it and blow of a little steam sometimes especially when we're living in a political climate that seems to be catering to Christians more and more.

ive noticed you've asked three questions on athiests and youve probably been harrassed if you actually believe in god then forget wot the athiests say.
the world is full of people who will laugh at ppl who believe. but deep deep deep in themselves theyre thinking there is someone looking on us.
my point is its a dog eat dog world here and ppl dont care about you what your morals are or wot u believe just dont advertise your beliefs in the public and you wont get harrassed
happy new year

And why do Christians say things like "You're going to burn in hell," or "God will punish you!" And these are the NICE ones. I've heard awful hateful things from the mouths of Christians said to atheists.
What happened to your respect?

Young lady, I am wondering which planet you come from.
Atheists may call religious people unthinking fools. But religious people use obscene insults, cut throats, torture (Inquisition), stone women to death(Islam), kill thousands of innocents ( 7/11) and declare holy wars. Both Hitler and Sadam were strong believers.
