She just came in to contact with her dad a year and a half ago and now they are very close and wants his last name added on to her last name. She wants it to be hyphenated. Just wondering how much it will cost.

Usually you just need to drop by the clerk of the courts of your county to pick up some paperwork, then go before a judge and tell him/her why the name wants to be changed. In this case, it shouldn't be very difficult, and you will probably only need to pay about 100, 150$ in court costs.

It isn't the state, it would be the county that is in charge of name changes. In my county (in Florida), it costs $300.

I noticed that your child is 12 yrs old...My honest opinion is that she is not old enough to make a decision like that on her own...start with that and let her mature...
