It sounds like you are learning about humility.
Humility is the virtue which acknowledges that all we have and all we accomplish is God's work not ours.
The opposite of humility is the sin of pride. Pride in yourself is undue self-esteem or self-love, which seeks attention and honor and sets oneself in competition with God.
Pride in things like your heritage, your nation, and your children are just being thankful for gifts from God. These are not the sin of pride.

You are right, that we cannot take it with us! Not many things last forever, and when you think of what does last, it can change your priorities for sure!! I am not sure I would say it is JUST a rental, and I am not sure I fully understand what you mean by that. I am not sure mine is a rental either, but I do know there is more to this life. Maybe you think this also, and in that sense, you think this physical body is a rental? That said, in the end, a lot will be revealed, no? Happy New Year to you
