There's no "better"--each has their pros and cons, and one may be better for you depending on your wants and needs.
Plasma:
Uses millions of little cells containing energized gas to create a picture.
- Generally brighter, with better color and contrast ratio (i.e. blacks are blacker, whites are whiter) than LCD.
- More affordable at larger (42" and up) sizes than LCD. Generally not available smaller than 40".
- Runs hotter than LCD.
- The plasma "wears out" over time, resulting in a limited lifespan of several years or so.
- Many models (particularly older ones) suffer from "burn-in," traces of an image that has been displayed onscreen for a long time remaining even after the picture has changed. The problem has been reduced over the years, but not eliminated.
LCD
Is made up of a liquid crystal grid illuminated from the back by a light source, not unlike an LCD watch, or the LCD's on your cell phone or laptop.
- More expensive in larger sizes. Comes in smaller sizes than plasma.
- Some (older) models have problems with response time and picture processing, resulting in "artifacts" onscreen when movement is fast.
- Contrast ratio is not as good as plasma or CRT ("regular" tube TV's).
- Lifespan is theoretically longer than Plasma; light sources behind the LCD can conceivably be replaced. No burn-in issues.

Flat panel TVs are all the rage now, with their slim profiles and large screen size. They come in two types Plasma and LCD. Plasma TVs work by illuminating thousands of tiny fluorescent lights to create an image. LCD TVs operate like the screen of a laptop. PTVs picture quality and size of the frame visible is higher than that of traditional ones. Plasma TVs. Where as LCD TV works more similar to a Laptop or a monitor screens.
The cost of PTVs and LCD TVs are higher as compared to anyother traditional bigsize flat TVs. But the prices of LCD TVs are steaply falling down, this is mainly due to the upcoming demands of Plasma versions.

A plasma display panel (PDP) is a type of flat panel display now commonly used for large TV displays. Many tiny cells located between two panels of glass hold an inert mixture of noble gases (neon and xenon). The gas in the cells is electrically turned into a plasma which then excites phosphors to emit light.
A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a thin, flat display device made up of any number of color or monochrome pixels arrayed in front of a light source or reflector. It is prized by engineers because it uses very small amounts of electric power, and is therefore suitable for use in battery-powered electronic devices.LCDs are commonly called LCD displays but this is wrong as it translates as: "liquid crystal display displays."
Plasma is more expensive, LCD is brighter, but usually smaller screens. Check out DLP also.

Plasma tvs uses gases to change colors and is sharper, although it will burn out after 10-15 years. LCD's use liquid crystals and electric shocks to make the picture. They last longer, but not as good picture when not looking straight on. Personally, i would get the lcd

liquid crystal reveal - that's the everyman HDTV. this is low fee. it somewhat is the massive charm. this is good for rooms that have uncontrollable ambient easy in it as liquid crystal reveal have matte end. yet once you have blinders or curtains you may manage the easy then. LCDs at the instant are not large with quickly action (activities and action video clips). the appropriate repayment they provide is 120Hz LCDs. they're massive advancements over the conventional ones, yet they don't experience Plasma. LCDs nonetheless are seen greater advantageous for gaming; whilst i does not argue that, i don't think of you will somewhat be unhappy enjoying video games on a Plasma. Plasma - they have greater advantageous blacks, greater advantageous assessment, and are greater advantageous with action blur. they seem to be a gloss end. they're heavier than LCDs. They require conditioning of the gasses once you first purchase them (for the 1st a hundred hours you decide on crank the brightness and assessment/image way down, then you definitely can optimize it). they don't be stricken by burn-in anymore (this is an previous college fantasy BS). they don't die right now anymore the two (back previous college fantasy BS). you may run a Plasma for twenty-four/7 for greater or less 34 years in the previous they're going to die. Do you think of you will nonetheless own the same television in 15 years, not to point 30? Plasmas have wicked severe refresh expenses so are large for on the spot action (activities and action video clips). At 40" nonetheless you're form of excellent on the border nonetheless. At 40 two" and above you decide on Plasma and 1080p when you consider which you may unquestionably word the distinction. below 40 two" it gets harder and harder to word the variations/advancements provided by using Plasmas. So at 40", you may desire to keep some coin and purely purchase a good liquid crystal reveal and smash out with it. in case you went with a superb type i don't think of you would be all to unhappy with a 40" liquid crystal reveal. Plasmas are stronger TVs usual nonetheless. Pioneer Kuro Elite is nice canines, then Pioneer Kuro, then Panasonic Viera 800's, then Panasonic Viera eighty's, then Samsungs (I ignore the type #'s). LCDs flow with Samsung, Sony (on condition that on sale), or Sharp Aquous.

Plasma's are brighter and hotter and are generally considered better however because they run so hot they tend to wear out like flourescent bulb. If a bulb warranty is available buy it. LCD and LCOS are both good subsitutes for flat panel televisions. They are more robust and LCD is a time tested proven technology.
