It's an art form that has been around for thousands of years. I think it's amazing to be able to carry round a piece of artwork on your body and that being asked to put an image on their body that will be with them for the rest of their lifes is so amazing. The fact that the lines are so perfect and there is no room for mistakes. I think you really need to take time out before you dismiss this artform as disgusting.

A lot of people in this world are very narrow minded my dear, and as you will see, it is the people who have the smallest minds who have the biggest mouths to go with it! Not a pretty pairing, but unfortunately that is the world we live in.

Some people like to get high and mighty and quote the bible, but the funny thing is, I have tattooed preachers! If they want to go quoting the bible than they should also recall that it is NOT their place to judge!

Some people are just so stuck in the stone ages that they can not see that the world around them has changed a great deal since side shows included "painted ladies."

I happen to be a woman with a LOT of tattoos. I am a professional tattoo artist and body piercer and I am also a professional graphic artist (and yes, I do go to galleries with a lot of snoody people to do my openings, and guess what... they still buy my art!). I am also, I am sure quite unexpectedly, a children's author and illustrator. I do all of these things, and my tattoos do not inhibit me at all. I was married to a fellow tattoo artist, and I am sure that a lot of people would have assumed that when I left him I would never have found anyone else to accept me as I am. I did very quickly, and guess what... another one is joining those of us who are "painted."

Long story short, the world is full of close minded fools who have nothing better to do than to judge others for what their idea of beauty is. My thoughts... if you don't like my tattoos, DON'T LOOK AT THEM! I am not forcing anyone to look, and I love the colorful me that was hiding under all that boring white skin. LOL!

I can't understand it myself....I think that it's an awesome thing to want a piece of artwork badly enough that you want it displayed on your body for life! People that do dismiss the art without taking the time to understand it are probably just jealous cuz they don't have the guts or the confidence to do it themselves.....they just assume all tattooed people are disgusting which is not right...everyone should be judged for who they are on the inside in their heart and not what's on the outside!

In some cultures it is very artistic to fix unremoveable rings around the neck of female children one by one, as they grow - because in that culture loooooong necks are considered to be features of great beauty. There are other cultures where people consider it a sign of elegance and status to wear a bone through the nose. Sticking needles in the skin and injecting different colored dyes to form some sort of pattern, design, message, or whatever, is just another "thing" that some people find attractive, others don't. I don't care who does it. I would just exercise my rights not to ever marry "The SnakeMan" LOLOLOL

simply because some people are closed minded and stubborn. set in their prejudiced ways. 80 years ago women with tattoos were in freak shows in the circus. that amazes me and makes me admire them for how brave they were to get the tattoos that they did. i love my tattoos and don't really care what people say about them.

but i have never had anybody say to my face that they don't like my tattoos. many people are surprised at how good they look. i think some people have a perception of what tattoos are and what they look like and don't realize how much the industry and art has changed since back in the day when tattoo parlors first got their start. some tattoos are truly beautiful art.

i don't think anyone has the right to call any form of art disgusting. sure, people have different tastes and are allowed to like and dislike certain things, but intentionally insulting a person's personal tastes is going too far.
i personally love tattoos.

Personally I love tattoos. I have 14 of them and don't plan to stop anytime soon. Some people just feel the need to discriminate against tattoos. Not sure why but maybe it makes themselves feel better because they are scared of it.

opinionated is one thing, but most people are just narrowminded!
if a tattoo is so disgusting, then why would you waste your time commenting in the tattoo forum? spend your precious time on something else!
i personally love tattoos! i havent had not one person make a negative comment when they see them, nor have i been denied a job because of my visible wrist tattoo.
my sister has an extremely visible wrist tattoo, and a tattoo on the back of her neck. she also has chin length hair so it is still visible....... and she works at a bank!
tattoos dont destroy you, the people that get them choose to destroy themselves!
its all in the way you carry yourself!

Yes, tattoos have been around for a long time.

But, just like with anything else, liking something is always going to be a matter of opinion.

I'm 22, and I have 15 tattoos... and I love every one of them. I plan to get many more as well.

If someone doesn't like my tattoos, that's their problem, and they don't have to associate with me if they choose not to. :)

It's a God thing. In Leviticus 19:28 it specically says not to make any tatoo marks on yourselves. As the Hebrew people were getting ready to move into the promised land, God instructed His people not to do certain things that the people did who previously occupied the land. Getting tatoos was one of the forbidden things to do.

Although we are no longer under the law because of the sacrafice of Christ, my thinking is...if God did not like tatoos back then, even though He would not hold it against us now because of Christ, it is just better for us not to have one put on. I realize many of you don't even believe in God, nor the Bible, but that is why many of us don't like or use tatoos.

maybe because a lot of tattoo parlors don't steralize their needles, which can lead to others getting STD's and stuff.
and also, when you get older, they tend to get really gross and saggy. do you want to be a grandma with a skull on her shoulder.
also, if you were going to an interview for a job and the employer saw the tattoo, they may not think of it in a postive way.
also, when a bride gets married, her dress may reveal the tattoo and it may end up looking really bad.
here's a site that may help: http://wzus.ask.com/r?t=p&d=us&s=a&c=a&l=dir&o=333&sv=0a30050c&ip=4720a610&id=285FE2245A8A0FF1D0DEEC34F8B86FEE&q=the+negatives+of+a+tattoo&p=1&qs=0&ac=27&g=0dd332nqGeL1j1&en=te&io=2&ep=&eo=&b=alg&bc=&br=&tp=d&ec=10&pt=Go%20Ask%20Alice!%3A%20Adverse%20effects%20of%20tattoo%20ink%3F&ex=&url=&u=http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/1204.html

so maybe they look cool, but in the end it may not be the most appealing thing for everyone
