Traditionally everyone pays for their own clothing - where the men get off easy (so to speak) in that they usually rent their tux's which is usually a fraction of the cost of buying dresses which is what the girls have to do.
The bride will usually take the girls out and together they will decide on a reasonably priced dress together so as not to put anyone into debt. Sometimes the bride (if she can) might help the bridesmaids with the cost of the dresses if there is a certain style of dress she would like them to wear at her wedding.
Also the maid/matron of honor will sometimes wear a dress that is slightly different then the other bridesmaids (also bought by the person wearing it).

In a traditional American wedding the prides family take care of the wedding expenses. Such as reception, catering, church, etc. The husbands family provides for the couple with a generous gift useful to the couple. Such as paying for the honeymoon, a house, car, large money donation to get them started. The ladies pay for the dresses and the men pay for their tuxes. The bride gives the bridesmaids gift like jewelry to wear for the wedding. To thank the women for participating. The groom gives a gift to his fellow groomsmen also. If your not too sure they have plenty of traditional wedding ediquette books you can check out. Look it up on the net or ask other married people for suggestions. May your future marriage be blessed and loving.

Each person pays for their own. When you select bridesmaids make sure that you select dresses that are within their budget. I would also pick a dress that they can wear later on - for example to a new year's eve party. Nothing is worse than making a bridesmaid spend $200 on a dress that she will never use again (believe me, I have my share of those!). Groomsmen tend to rent, so the price might not be so bad.

Kevin, welcome to weddings..It's unusually for a groom to be asking a question, but I am so happy you are giving the bride a helping hand.
In past years, the bride paid for the bridesmaid dresses, and the groom picked up the tab for the tuxs for the groomsmen. Today's standard is that the wedding party pays for their own.
So, it's up to you and the bride.
My daughter got married, and I picked up the tab for the dresses, and the groom's father got the tuxs because the girls and guys were all in college and broke. lol Most young people are expecting to pay for their own outfits for the wedding.
Congratulations! Happy happy wedding day, and many many years to come.....
God bless us all........

Everyone does something different. Some people pay for the dresses and the tuxs and in turn don't buy them gifts and other couples let the bridal party pay for dresses and tuxs and buy them gifts. You should do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Or if you are still unsure, you should talk to your wedding party and ask which they prefer.

The girls pay for their own dresses and the men pay for their own tuxes. Some places offer the grooms tux for free with so many tuxes in a party being rented.

this really does depend, if you have a person like the brides daddy that has said they will pay for everything then he will, if the bride and groom are paying for most or all of the wedding you can ask that your brides maids and grooms men pay for 1/2 of the cost or all, but remember they didn't ask to be in your wedding so don't be pushy about it if finances are low remember that you can rent tuxes and you can get good deal on dresses if you shop during sales!

It is the bridesmaids and groomsmens responsibility to pay for the attire BUT if you have enough in your budget you could always pay for them.
