neurogenesis- origin of neurons
neruoplasticity- changes in the connections between neurons (new memory).

When improving memory most people are talking about neuroplasticity. New neurons are unable to be formed except in the hippocampus. Hippocamus is part of the limbic system which involved in memory processing. Usually improving memories is aimed to create new methods of memorization or association. Brain fitness programs excercising your brain and promoting physiological changes including neurogenesis and neuroplasticity which is believed to prevent onset of disease of the brain.

I just want to add my two cents. Nowhere in the brain do neurons reproduce, no not the hippocamppus. Nowhere.
Neuroplasticity is a term for when there is a brain deficit as in a stroke the brain can "rewire" itself so other areas may take over for the damaged area. There is no Neurogensis that takes place anywhere in the body.

Neurons themselves do not reproduce, but what is left of your stem cells after you reach adult can morph into new brain cells. So yes neurogenesis is possible with stem cells.
