Indoor cats do this a lot. Mostly because they are bored. Give it things to keep it occupied and it might cut down on it some. Otherwise it's a natural thing for a cat. My cat was ALWAYS cleaning himself. Just try to brush it at least three times a week and it'll help cut down on the hairballs that it will get from this contant grooming. I hope this helps.

Cats are naturally clean animals. My cats groom themselves a lot too, but try brushing your cat. My cats love it!

Is there such a thing as too much grooming? You might want to ask your vet...but I suspect that your cat is probably fine and that you shouldn't worry about it too much.

They always groom themselves but, if yours does it to much then go to Wal-Mart and buy cat bath wipes and just wipe him down with it every week and maybe he won't feel so dirty

Unless he/she is causing irritation to their skin, or causing fur to become thinner than usual, then it's only your idea of obsession and not the cat's.
