My kids loved "Labyrinth"...it was a teensy bit scary, but the muppets made up for that...and with a good ending, they weren't left feeling uneasy. (plus David Bowie in tight leather pants..huminahumninahumina)
Or you could try some of the newer Pixar movies, like "Cars" or "Over the Hedge" (I know they aren't both Pixar, but you know what I mean). These kind of movies are great for any age.
The "Spy Kids" movies are good, or "Sharkboy and Lavagirl".
One of my favorites at that age was "The Goonies" a classic movie...it just never gets old, and since it's 20 years old, chances are he/she probably hasn't seen it before.

i just got my 11 daughter into star wars ,empire strikes, and Jedi. she loves it and it has no blood. there is nothing better then watching star wars with someone who hasn't seen it.
she also likes Jurassic park movies but i fast forward past the death scenes.
