Because we have a spiritual enemy that would like to divide and conquer. Sometimes division has been absolutely necessary (as with the reformation) as an attempt to get back on course. The religious church (centered on the works of man, rather than the desire of God) has hosted many "dead" works, that have given opportunity to the infiltration of demonic influences that were aimed at destroying the faith altogether. I feel like the church is still moving forward with the mission that God gave us to do in the earth, but it is a remnant to say the least (pun not intended). The religious majority grind on with traditions and doctrines of men, being more or less ineffective and fruitless, except for the ocassional scandal that surfaces to reproach the name of Christ. But there is a Spiritual minority that loves God, and are willing to believe the Bible when it says that He is the same God of love and miracles today that He was back when the Bible was written.

All religions say their the "true" religion, first off. Secondly, like other religions, some people don't agree with the entire idea of the main branch.

Protestant's (if I remember correctly, but probably dont.) Broke off from the religion because the catholic priests were really just drunk idiots running around selling "get out of hell free cards". The baptists i believe don't agree with the pope and don't think there are saints or somthing...not sure. Either way they all broke off and made their own special set of rules. Same with with the orthodox, baptists, evanglists etc..

Any way the main branch of Christianity - Catholic, is considered the "true" branch. Thats the big one with the pope and the vadican and all the big fuss. If any one attacks Christianity, they always target the big boy catholics.

Because those religions have 'adopted' the term 'Christianity'. They classify themselves as part of the Christian religion, but in all truth, they are far from the TRUE Christian religion - they are pagan. There are NO branches of Christianity. Orthodoxism, Roman Catholicism, etc are NOT part of true Christianity. They use the term in a misleading way, believing that their rituals and beliefs (all thought up by man) are Christian, but in all reality, they are not. Just a misconception on their part as to what real Christianity is. Their version of 'Christianity' is a deceptive meaning - it's Christianity according to THEIR beliefs - not according to God's word. If you read through the bible, you will find that the rituals in those relgions (i.e. Roman Catholicism's confession, confirmation, saying 'Hail Marys', Rosary Beads, etc) are not at all biblical, but are pagan rules thought up by the RC empire and the Vatican and those who started the religion centuries ago. TRUE Christianity is the religion that those who are born again by the grace of God abide by God's word - not all the pomp and show and rituals performed by priests, bishops, the pope, etc.

Very well-said, Terminato!! :) You took the words right out of my mouth!

Is private interpretation of the Bible condoned in the Bible Itself? No, it is not (2 Peter 1:20). Was individual interpretation of Scripture practiced by the early Christians or the Jews? Again, "NO" (Acts 8:29-35). The assertion that individuals can correctly interpret Scripture is false. Even the "founder" of Sola Scriptura (Martin Luther), near the end of his life, was afraid that "any milkmaid who could read" would found a new Christian denomination based on his or her "interpretation" of the Bible. Luther opened a "Pandora's Box" when he insisted that the Bible could be interpreted by individuals and that It is the sole authority of Christianity. Why do we have over 20,000 different non-Catholic Christian denominations? The reason is individuals' "different" interpretations of the Bible.

early on the teachers stopped teaching those scriptures which call the congregation to keep the teachers accountable so the teachers strayed. It got so bad they actually started a war. Luther pointed out their error and from there has come many denomination.. He should have looked for a way to enforce the accountablity guidelines instead of splitting and then there was King Henry the 8th who split for lusty reason and removed his country from the fold. The episcapalians as I understand it have been one from the beginning during Romans .

Who told it that it was the true religion?

I'm a Christian, but haven't heard that remark before. If anyone said that, they must not be a Christian. We would not be a loving people if we judged others for "not" being like us. We can't all be alike, it would take too long to share the joy, the peace, the love, the grace and the power of our Lord Jesus Christ with everyone.

We try, but satan keeps confusing some people by giving us a bad image by encouraging our "outspoken" brothers and sisters to spoil our name. It is hard to convince someone that God is good all the time, in one breath, when one of our own family members brings negative images and words into the mix, in the next breath.

God loves us all, Jesus loves us all, peace to you in the new year.

There's too much history to explain it here. In a nutshell, it was human corruption that ultimatley separated the church. That's why I am non-denominational. I simply study the Bible on my own or in different churches and worship when I want. That's the freedom I find in just being a Christian, the only label I need.

If you were Satan what would you do? Satan is very smart and the Father of lies. He knows people want something to believe in, so give them many different religions that sound good, but just not good enough to get you to heaven.

Not every church that calls themselves Christian, teach the truth, Some don't teach that you must be born again.

It certainly would have saved a great deal of time if he had just gotten the point right away, don't you think?
I mean, he's God.
3-4 sentences tops. Call it a millennium.
Would have saved a good deal of mucking about.
All this he needs to be forgiven, she's not a true that, we need to check the signs here, we can't truly understand why......
Seems a bit muddled to me.
Probably a do over.

What does the many branches have to do with it being true? How is that supposed to prove that it is false? So religion you think is the one and only has to have only one branch?
