We have put the litter box where they can't reach it, but they dig it up outside. I clean up as much as possible outside, but they still find it. They are well fed, so being hungry isn't the issue. Someone on here suggested putting meat tenderizer in the food, which I have tried (in the cat food), but they are still doing this. Help!!

When a dog eats another animals feces, it can mean that it is lacking something in its diet, such as protein (or could also be intestinal parasites) or it is also a behavioural trait that some dogs possess. To get him to kick the habit keep the dogs on a leash and supervised while outside. If they start digging for it, try to distract them from it with a toy etc. Make sure to praise the dog for staying away from the poop!
If they always did this, it is behavioural; however if it is a recent problem it would be biological and they might need veterinary attention to check for intestinal parasites etc.

Something Dogs and Cats have in common is a less than efficient digestive system. Sorry this is gross but there is a lot of nutritional value left in their poop. They could live off their own poop for a while. You are right about the solution. Keeping the liter box out of reach is the only solution. Once you're out of site the reprimand will likely go out the window. Unfortunately your dog is only doing what comes naturally.

HI
Eating poo is either boredom or a lack of acid in their diets. There are a few things you can do. Mix pineapple in their food. Or mix pumpkin in their food. Or mix sauerkraut in their food. If this doesn't work buy forbid from the dr. foster and smith catalog this always has worked for me.

I know there is stuff you can put in a dogs food (I think it's call distaste?) so that it will make it's poo taste yucky so it won't eat it's own feces... perhaps, if it's safe, you could add it to the cat's food instead?

There is this stuff I know of that works great called Bitter Apple. You can spray it on anything you don't want animals to lick or eat, and it tastes so nasty that they won't want to. If you can find it I'm sure it will help you.

Try using cheyenne pepper. More and more people are training their cats to use a human toilet. I have no idea how, but if you look on youtube, they have a bunch of videos of it. That would keep them from eating it!
