I would say that it probably depends on your station in life going into it. You need a financial cushion for rainy days and when you're a single parent you may find that it rains more often.
Beyond that it also depends on your strength and determination to establish and maintain a high-paying career while also balancing the needs of your family. My advice would be to try to find jobs that allow you to spend the majority of your time working from home so you can maximize your time with the kids and minimize your child care expenses.
Consider real estate, sales, day trading etc. Please note that these jobs require a high level of personal dedication because there is no guaranteed salary to fall back on and often no boss looking over your shoulder - you have to "bet" on yourself and as a result, these positions can be very risky but with anything, the higher the risk the higher the reward. Transition slowly from your normal day job into these and only cut over fully once you are well established. Transitioning may include night time or online education & professional certification in some positions.
Be strong! I've seen some very amazing women achieve some very amazing things!

Yes.......when opportunity comes knocking.....open the door. There are all kinds of government grants for schooling for you....as a suggestion. Think of Erin Brockovich........remember the movie? She's a single parent. Also, make sure you get child support from the father. Best of luck to you and Happy New Year!!!

Of course it is! Actually, it may be a more difficult fight, but you have something to fight for! Remember to smile at your child. Success is difficult in any situation, and if it starts to get you down, don't let the feelings pass to the innocent. When you DO succeed, it would suck to be alone too!
