I work with individuals with mental illness such as schizophrenia and they are scared to even go outside. Occasionally with a lot of encouragement they will go outside or if an activity is planned weeks ahead of time. These individuals are on a lot of medications. Anxiety meds such as lorazepam usually help.

I don't have a phobia that doesn't let me travel although I understand where it stems from. I live in NY and my mom wanted to visit her friend in Alambama, when I went with her it was a completely different enviroment. Most people like rountines and going somewhere different is difficult for most people. Just like when you were younger your first day of school probably caused anxiety. As far as planes go there are a lot of people with that phobia It could be because you have control issues and you can't control a plane (because someone else is driving it and your in the air) or you are afraid of heights etc...

is it the fear of leaving the hometown and travel or is it the fear of meeting the strangers ?
In your case from the bach flower remedies i suggest to take "mimulus" as a remedy which makes you free from fears from known origin. There are several remedies available in this system and you can buy a book or browse for further details.

Please do not take any anti schregopheniac drugs as there occur considerable side effects.
In homeopathy this is a clear case of silicia which has an aversion towards strangers and strange places. you can take silicia 200x tablets 4 tabs each time 3 times a day for a month and then can reduce to 2 times a day.
Please rule out any possibility of week vision or night blindness in your case because the people who knowningly or unknowingly suffering with week vision in dimlight or nightblindness feel averse to travel and strangers because their life style is adopted all the known and tangible things. As new things make them feel trouble subconciously they might refuse for a travel and new places. so please visit a retinal specialist and ruleout the above problems.
If travel is only the cause then you have to go for another remedies in homeopathy like cocculus ,bryonia, gelsemium, ignatia etc.......because lease movement in the body or any affort to mind makes the patient suffer a lot ultimately driving him to avoid doing things.
please contact me by email for further assistance and analysis.
have nice times.

classically this would be know as agoraphobia. if left untreated it will almost certainly progress.
behavioral therapy is available for this condition and i suggest you begin to address this fear as soon as possible. it is an anxiety disorder and sometimes goes hand in hand with panic attacks or panic disorder. it can become very debilitating .
the bottom line is the treatment for it is to fight it. everytime you give in to the fear(the obsession) and perform your compulsion (to stay home) you give more power to this fear. so it grows.
you need'nt be ashamed or fearful about getting help from a therapist. you are NOT alone...and the sooner you address the issue..the sooner you will find freedom from it!
all the best.
