Peter Piper ... have you picked a peck of pickled peppers???

As for your question, a bit naive wouldn't you say? But here goes:

One group of people look across at another group of people and say, hey, look guys, they've got more land / water / oil / food than us. Let's go and get what they've got!

War should always be a last resort. In these cases you are fighting to protect your land, your family, your people. You are fighting for a just course.
Sometimes it's not like that, sometimes you are mislead, forced into a war, or tricked. We hear about this especially in Africa, people fighting without even knowing who they're fighting for. Heard of the Rwandan genocide? Thats a serous case of people being turned against there brothers and sisters.
A lot of war going on today can be resolved easily. The second war of the D.R.Congo killed nearly 4million people and it is thought that problems caused by it still kill 1,000 people there a day. It was the worst war since ww2 and hardly anyone knows about it. There is more peace there now after a UN force of just 15,000 soldiers came in 2003. There have also been the first elections for 40 years in 2006. But do you know how many UK troops there are? Just 7 observers. And how many USA troops? 0. Its as if our western World doesn't care. Thats one thing about war. Our world forgets it and only cares when it might effect us.

War is hell and nobody really wants it.
But sometimes it is better to fight it rather than sit back and do nothing. The question you have to ask is what is the motivation behind each issue. Is it good or evil? You cant always get it right but if your motives are just then so is the war. Here are some examples of what I think are just causes.

Nazi Germany.
Cuban missile crises.
Somalia.
Bosnia.
Kosovo.
Gulf war 1.
Afghanistan.
Iraq. (I don't think for one moment that Bush and Blair lied. They acted on what they thought were the facts at the time. If anyone blame Saddam for lying about WMD)

I was once a "warrior." War is evil. War is stupid. But mostly, war, is a necessary evil. How can you fight? It's a whole lot easier than you may think. When someone tries to kill you, you generally tend to fight back. It's a kill or be killed world in which we live. There are those who believe that because you and I don't believe as they, that we should not be permitted to live. There is no reasoning with these people, this is their belief system -- and they are raising their children to believe the same. You can certainly try and befriend them and love them, but they will only kill you for having tried. So, they kill your friends and family. They are coming after you. What will YOU do?

Say you were safe and sound, asleep in your own home, when suddenly someone broke in and physically attacked you or one of your family members. Do you just sit and watch? Or do you take action? What if it was no longer safe for you to go down to get food at the grocery store because a sniper was taking people out? Do you just sit at home watching television with no food in your house? Or how about an army coming in and attacking the town or city you live in? Do you just sit around and hope for the best? War is about protecting your freedom. No-one wants war, but sometimes it can be avoided (that is if you want to live).

the idea of war is to conquer the problem with war now is that it is used in the wrong context war should take place it has to it is the most instinctive prim evil thing built into all humans. the problem is you cant use war to create peace as it is used now.

now look at the British empire or the Roman empire these brought massive technological and social advancements to parts of the world that were without even basic amenities they also brought massive periods of peace in the empire under roman control Europe and some of Africa and Asia minor were peace full and flourished peace between different countries doesn't work you need one strong dominate one

you will continually get distinctive responses to this question with the aid of fact all human beings has a distinctive opinion of the prefer and outcomes of conflict. conflict would desire to in basic terms be used if ALL diplomatic efforts spoil down and fail. it quite is a terrible and grimy project and has dire outcomes that can't be reversed. For the main area, no longer even warriors want wars, yet while it protects freedoms and saves greater lives than it could fee, then that is nicely worth it. the international could be superb devoid of wars, yet seem at it like the animal kingdom; what could or no longer that is like if fish did no longer consume different fish, or lions did no longer ever consume gazelles? It purely does not seem a threat.

War is an evil thing, but unfortunately sometimes necessary. For example if you think back to World War 2 and Hitler. What do you think would of happened if no one stood up to him, I dread to think. Then you look in the other direction, Iraq!! I need not say anymore

It's bad news and only idiots consider it to be something worthwhile. However you sitting there may have had such a easy life to not understand what comes with it, because if it wasn't for half of the people you may nowbe thinking bad about, you wouldn't have the luxury to be able to ask such a question in the first place

If you study history you will see that there is no peace without war.

Anybody that doesn't support the Iraq war should have their oil based plastic keyboards taken away from them, their 8 gallons of oil in each car tire taken away, their car engines that suck oil down like a drunken sailor, their precious oil based roads that you use everyday, your synthetic materials made of oil (cloths on your back, shoes) etc...etc...etc...

As the saying goes:
Before you point any fingers, remember that there are 3 more pointing back at you

war is stupid, but inevitable.... when you have leaders of one country that believe their way is the "right" way and tries to impose that belief on another, then SOME kind of altercation (many times a war) is bound to occur. Many people feel it is their duty to take the side of the person being attacked, while the ones doing the attacking may have no choice, due to their "leaders" wishes.
