There are a lot of variables, the biggest being the initial size of your pictures. Once you know how large your pictures are, you can calculate how many will fit on the card. Assuming you always take the pictures in the same resolution, it is safe to assume that doubling the size of the card should almost double the images you can take (again assuming you always take the pictures with the same resolution.). I would recommend getting the bigger card - better to have too much room than not enough.

It all depends on the resolution and quality, but yes, the number would double on a 512mb.

Keep in mind that the higher the quality of the image taken, the more space it will use up.

Assuming a image takes up 200kb of data, you will be able to fit over 13,000 images on a 256mb card.

If your finest or best setting for your camera is between 3 MP and 8 MP you're close to being right. About doubles .But using 12 MP only from about 40 to 56. Your answer depends on the setting you're using on camera which you don't mention. If your finest setting is 5 MP you get about 100 shots, if your setting is 4 MP you get about 125 shots, 3 MP about 210 pictures.

It depends on the resolution of the pictures. The lower the resolution, the more pictures will fit on the card. The higher the resolution, the fewer.
