I have an RCA TV. I have hooked up a dvd player. The movie plays but while it plays the screen is split into two pictures and in the middle of the screen is reads "P-SCAN!" in Large neon green letters. I am unable to remove these letters and make the screen into one. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! (I am usually pretty good at these things but this has me stumped!)

"Progressive scan." Your TV isn't capable of handling the progressive signal.

Basically the picture on your screen is made up of hundreds of horizontal lines. On standard TV's, these lines are "interlaced"--first the TV "draws" the odd lines, then the even lines. On progressive scan TV's, they can "draw" the lines sequentially. When viewing movies on a progressive scan DVD player and a progressive-capable TV, the picture is somewhat sharper and more similar to the experience of viewing the film in the theater.

There are three possibilities regarding solving your problem:
- there's a button on your DVD player that will turn off progressive scan
- there's a menu setting in your DVD player that will turn off progressive scan (you'll have to try navigating that hard-to-see picture using the remote)
- your DVD player only outputs progressive scan through its component connection (Red, Green, Blue, White, Red), and needs to be connected via composite connections (Yellow, White, Red).

make sure the DVD is not set to progressive scan.
There is either a switch on the back, a button on the DVD remote, or you have to go through the DVD setup menu.
