Subliminal tapes have been around for decades, because they can actually work. People use them to quit smoking, learn a second language, become a better salesperson, etc.

The subconscious mind is very receptive, and it never forgets. Be careful what you feed it, of course. It's also useful if what you lack is confidence. When your subconscious believes something, it just _is_ that way. It's the main difference between an okay athlete and a great athlete, a good businessperson and a great businessperson.

Plus they're cheap. And if you intend to read War and Peace, hell, it's easier if you start out asleep.

I personally believe it does. Not in the dramatic way that Homer learned it but it does work. I listen to language tapes while I am sleeping and I truly believe it helps. If nothing else, when you wake up and hear a word then this this might be the 3rd time that you heard it instead of the 2nd and I think it must reenforce it, at the very least.

Learning increases with the number of repetitions. Try it and see. When I was studying Latin and Greek, I woke in the night from a dream, sitting up in bed, dreaming of translating from Latin to Greek to Sanskrit . It was an extremely intense dream where my mind was racing through this test. Long answer for my experience points to the conclusion that we do learn or practice what we've learned in our sleep.

I'm pretty sure listening to things while your sleeping will not help you remember things. However, listening to something before you go to sleep will probably help. Sleeping (and dreaming) is a way for your mind to relax and sort things out. Therefore, it would make sense to listen to something right before bed and possilby think about it before drifting off.

Nope. That's pretty much been disproved. Not that the people selling you the tapes will tell you that.

I don't think it's effective, simply because your mind has to be engaged in order for you to learn anything.
