Should the head of the department encourage retired police officers to observe and report any suspicous activity that may occur when they are shopping, banking, purchasing fuel or any activity that would put them in a position to help?

No. They should arrest them for speeding violations and DUI and put them where they belong. Christ them retirees see someone farting they wanna whine and bitsh. Send them to the Military and put them in the marines so they can get a real lesson on respect.

I am volunteer with a local police department, we have some retired police officers in our group. So volunteering is a great way to utilize the experience of police work.

Yes: it's part of " Peace Officer's Retirement benifits"
after they served for so many years upon their active duty
among men & women whom does wear uniforms for each
community 's office branch like Sheriff, StatePolice,F.B.I agents
Detectives, Chief of Police all will retire by 65yrsold ok ?

What self respecting retired police officer would fail to do that on their own, and what kind of police dept would discourage such a thing?
