It's a double standard. Women 18+ with nice breasts should be encouraged to walk around shirtless.

Everything depends on the circumstances. If it's an informal setting, lounging around the house, at a park, a sporting event, any place where swimming is occurring, or where you are doing physical labor, going shirtless is perfectly normal and acceptable, whether a woman is present or not. There is nothing 'weird' about guys going shirtless together. My friends and I used to go to ball games, sit in the bleachers, take off our shirts, sneakers and socks and watch the game while we worked on our tans. When I lived in the city we always went up to the roof, stripped off our shirts and talked while enjoying the sun. Going shirtless any time where protocol and health codes do not preclude it is perfectly valid and viable.

I think it depends on the surrounding/environment more than the gender of the company. Granted, it is not really good etiquette to be shirtless among women in most situations.

depends on you, your body and your situation. for example. a monster truck rally, a fat slob could go shirtless there no problem. Walking around down town with your homies drinking some 40oz, shirtless bro. fat guy may want to cover up just for shame. Bar, wear a shirt unless it's an outside beach bar. guests in your home, probably want to wear a shirt if you are maintaining a profile. Your teenage kid doesn't want to see your beer belly either. Office meetings, dinners out, dress appropriatly.

Just improper if there is a married woman and her husband in the area disrespectfull to them both. But if its at the beach its all good.

going shirtless is a simian male social behavior done to establish dominance or the alpha male in the male group. more extreme versions are placing the genitals near another males face as a show of intimidation. some men obviously like this sort of behavior many find it retarded. so it depends on who you are around.
